The University of the Philippines Mindanao Quality Assurance Office remains committed to the continuous pursuit of institutional excellence and quality of service. In line with this commitment, the office conducted a series of benchmarking visits from March 17-20, 2026, engaging with various offices to exchange best practices and gain insights that would guide the strengthening of internal quality assurance systems in preparation for the upcoming UP Mindanao QA activities. The delegation was led by the Director of the office, Prof. Ritchie Mae T. Gamot, Ph.D., along with UP Mindanao QAO staff, who visited the UP Los Baรฑos Quality Assurance Office, UP Diliman Quality Assurance Office, UP-Centre International de Formation des Autorites et Leaders (UP-CIFAL Philippines), and the UP Asian Center.
On March 18, 2026, the UP Mindanao QAO delegation visited the UPLB Quality Assurance Office, led by Prof. Myra G. Borines, PhD., where discussions went to the sharing of best practices in relation to their QA organizational structure and governance, sharing of policies, guidelines, and operational frameworks, Self-Assessment Report (SAR) preparation, feedback systems, and knowledge management system. Of particular interest to UP Mindanao QAO were UPLBโs office manual of operations, resources related to SAR writing and program assessment, and the iAADs Dashboards, which provide features of checking the overall average, trends, and other system data insights.
On March 19, 2026, the office also visited the UP Diliman Quality Assurance Office, headed by Dr. Evangeline C. Amor. The office was warmly welcomed by various teams within the office, including the External Quality Assurance Team (EQAT), Internal Quality Assurance Team (IQAT), Administrative Services Team (AST), and the Knowledge Management Team (KMT), with the visit particularly facilitated by Mr. Charles Jason Ramos, team leader of the EQAT. During this visit, UP Mindanao QAO explored strategies to foster QA understanding among academic staff, students, and other constituents, including QAO fairs and flagship programs. The office also learned about the UPD QAOโs approaches to monitoring university rankings, specifically for the AUN-QA program-level assessment and other impact rankings, and presented their shared system for effective documentation and archiving. In turn, UP Mindanao QAO shared its best practices and experiences, particularly regarding the university's ISO 9001:2015 certification journey. This included a discussion of systems developed to strengthen ISO implementation, such as the Intelligent Systems for Internal Processes (ISIP) ISO Module and the Client Satisfaction Survey.
On the same day, March 19, 2026, the UP Mindanao Quality Assurance Office (QAO) visited CIFAL Philippines and met with Dr. Michelle Palumbarit, the director, and her staff. The discussion focused on UP-CIFALโs operations in capacity-building, institutional partnerships, knowledge sharing, and other operational practices. More so, the UP Mindanao QAO showed particular interest in UP-CIFAL's professional courses and capacity-building programs, as they offer comprehensive approaches to various issues related to the United Nationsโ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These courses include the Professional Course on Global Migration (PCGM), the Professional Course on Digital Governance and Cybersecurity (PCDGC), and the Professional Course on Water Governance. In turn, the UP Mindanao QAO shared updates on UP Mindanao's own SDG progress, presenting the results of the UP Mindanao SDG Report. They also discussed their work on advancing quality assurance mechanisms and monitoring to support the Universityโs sustainability and SDG initiatives.
The office also engaged in discussions with the Asian Center, UP Diliman to explore future collaborations. Specifically, the Center is interested in comparing its language courses and Mindanao-related studies with those offered at UP Mindanao. Potential areas for greater collaboration include strengthening Mindanao-focused research and extension activities, participating in international forums, and inviting UP Mindanao students to study at the Asian Center. They have also introduced their graduate-level multidisciplinary programs on Asian studies and on Philippine studies, particularly the Master of Arts in Asian Studies (Thesis and Non-thesis), Master of Arts in Philippine Studies (Thesis and Non-thesis), and Ph.D. in Philippine Studies, which could open new opportunities for students in UP Mindanao to pursue their advanced studies and academic engagements.
With all these, the UP Mindanao Quality Assurance Office (QAO) reaffirms its commitment to continuous improvement through a proactive and strategic approach grounded in the best practices of benchmarked institutions. By translating these insights into responsive, forward-looking, and regenerative initiatives, UP Min QAO aims to achieve tangible and sustainable outcomes, including enhanced systems and procedures, greater alignment with national and international quality standards, and more efficient and transparent processes. These efforts promote a shared culture of quality, accountability, and excellence across UP Mindanaoโsupporting the Universityโs mission, advancing its vision as a leading institution in higher education, and enabling it to effectively respond to emerging challenges and opportunities in a rapidly changing academic environment."
