Asia Open RAN Academy

The Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) Laboratory at the University of the Philippines Diliman was officially launched on August 1, 2025.

Hosted by the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute, the lab will support research, testing, and workforce development focused on open, interoperable telecommunications infrastructure.

The morning program featured remarks from government, industry, and academic leaders, followed by the ceremonial signing of the deed of donation, a ribbon-cutting, and a live demonstration inside the lab.

The afternoon brought together stakeholders for a dialogue and workshop on Open RAN policy, technology, and workforce development.

This milestone was made possible through the support of the United States Government, in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines.

The launch convened key contributors across public, private, and academic sectors including the Asia Open RAN Academy, Terra Hertz, Department of Information and Communications Technology, Better Access and Connectivity (BEACON) Project, CADMUS, National Telecommunications Commission, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology, Advanced Science and Technology Institute, Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development, Smart Communications, Globe Telecom, Viavi Solutions, ArkOne Solutions, Nokia, Ericsson, Samsung, Keysight Technologies, Rohde & Schwarz, UP master's and PhD scholars, and other committed partners.

This collaboration underscores the growing momentum behind Open RAN as a platform for innovation and inclusive connectivity in the region.
