Good day Torchies! Are you ready for our first lesson? Here we go!
But before we start, we want you to answer the following questions and write them down in the comment section!
1. What do you see in the logo?
2. Can you tell us the difference of each symbolism of hands, phones, and book?
3. In your own understanding what is Media, Information, and Literature?
Let us first know the meaning of Media, Information, and Literature:
Media and Information Literacy is the ability of the citizens to access, retrieve, understand, evaluate, and use information. Information could be created and shared through the use of different mediums in a critical, ethical, and effective way.
To further understand Media and Information Literacy, let’s define each word with the logo that we made for MIL (Media and Information Literacy).
As you can see, the phones symbolize the “Media” part of MIL because media refers to the mediums that are used to communicate or mass communicate through radio, television, computers, films, and internet. In short, it is a platform where information is published and distributed.
On the other hand, the book symbolizes the “Information” and “Literacy” part of the MIL. Information refers to the data and knowledge derived from different studies and experiments. While Literacy is the ability of a person to understand, interpret, create, communicate, and compute with the use of printed or written materials. Therefore, the book symbolizes information and literature because they contain data and are always ready to be disseminated.
Lastly, the hands symbolize the connection or the process of how people disseminate information to one another.
Through MIL, people will develop critical thinking and skills to socialize that will help them become an active citizen.
And that's it! We hope you enjoyed and learned a lot from today's lesson. Don't forget to answer the questions to the comment box below.
