Last Saturday, the Miriam College Music Center and Miriam College Grade School welcomed the Philippine Suzuki Youth Orchestra (PSYO) to the La Porte Hall for an inspiring afternoon of live orchestral music!

The afternoon featured two sessions - one for the MCGS community and another for Music Center students. Each session began with an interactive introduction to the orchestra, exploring each section's unique role and the ensemble's young leaders.

Then came the music: a full program that opened with Mozart's Divertimento in D and included beloved favorites like Moon River, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Beauty and the Beast, among others.
Our students were also treated to stunning solo performances by young musicians Polo Bantilan on violin (Praeludium and Allegro by Fritz Kreisler), PSYO concertmaster Teddy Tan on violin (Spring from Vivaldi's Four Seasons), and Jaime Ong on voice (O Mio Babbino Caro by Giacomo Puccini).

At the Miriam College Music Center, we believe in creating meaningful musical encounters that connect our students with inspiring artists and real-world performance experiences.

The piano took center stage at the Miriam College Music Center last Thursday, 5 March 2026, as London-trained Filipina pianist Inna Montesclaros presented her solo recital, PIANO ODYSSEY.

In a program that traveled across countries, styles, and eras, Montesclaros revealed the many colors and characters of classical piano music.

Her curated repertoire featured works by Chopin, Beethoven, Debussy, Enescu, Liszt, Espino, and Ginastera, ranging from lyrical poetry to dazzling virtuosity and vibrant dance rhythms. A special moment in the program was a duet performance of Pandangguhan arr Espino with our own piano faculty member, Fiona Rivera.

The recital concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where students asked their burning questions, from memorization tips to Montesclaros’s current favorite composer (for now: Brahms!).

Earlier that morning, Montesclaros also worked with two Music Center students in a special coaching session, sharing insights from her experience as a performer and mentor.

At the Miriam College Music Center, we strive to provide meaningful musical encounters like these for our students, connecting them with inspiring artists and real-world performance experiences.

In celebration of Philippine Independence Day, we honor our country’s rich musical heritage with a look back at the Metro Manila Concert Orchestra’s performance of Mga Katutubong Awitin by National Artist for Music Lucio San Pedro. 🇵🇭🎶

Performed during the gala concert of Resonance: The Music Center 70th Anniversary on February 12, 2025, this piece draws from traditional Filipino melodies and evokes the spirit of our cultural roots through orchestral color and lyricism.

The MMCO, originally established as the Metro Manila Community Orchestra in 2000, was once the resident orchestra of Miriam College. It helped shape young musicians and brought orchestral music closer to the community through on-campus concerts and outreach programs. Their performance at Resonance was a powerful tribute to the enduring role of music in telling our nation's story.
