Two students from the Interdisciplinary Studies Department represented Ateneo de Manila University at the Asian Undergraduate Symposium (AUS) 2025, which took place at the National University of Singapore from June 6 to 19.
Out of 40 project proposals submitted across Asia, Project AGOS by Group V was selected as one of only ten (10) initiatives to receive a monetary grant for implementation.
Project AGOS is a community-led initiative that aims to revive the Estero de Paco through the use of Bokashi Balls—small spheres made of locally sourced effective microorganisms (EM), molasses, rice bran, and soil—to improve water quality.
Danielle Alexandra Mariano (Tracks: Economics and Communication) represented Ateneo as a member of Group V, alongside Renzel Bana (University of the Philippines–Manila), Aien Aisyah binti Jefridin (Universiti Brunei Darussalam), Peter Anthony Laciste (Central Luzon State University), Xiong Lu (National University of Singapore), Shiori Sato (Tokyo Woman’s Christian University), Pham Dao Phuong Uyen (Nagoya University), and Ernest Yu (National University of Singapore).
Meanwhile, as one of the project proposals, DECKlare: A History-based Card Game by Group A is a collaborative, strategic, campaign-based roleplay card game that revolves around anti-colonialism and aims to educate players about the rich, indigenous history of different countries through immersive, story-driven gameplay.
Representing Ateneo in this group was Reigne Dee S. Barbasa (Tracks: Psychology and Communication), who collaborated with Muhammad Khairul Suryonegoro (Institut Teknologi Bandung), Zahrin Dzakiyya Anwar (Universitas Indonesia), Vong Piseth (Royal University of Law and Economics), Aadit Pahuja (Hindu College, University of Delhi), Mio Sasaki (Tokyo Woman’s Christian University), and Neiro Watanabe (Tokyo Woman’s Christian University).

This year’s officers of the Interdisciplinary Studies Association took charge of the School of Humanities Booth at EdEx for Ateneo Senior High School held on August 7-8, 2025! Organized by the Office of Admissions and Aid, the 2-day event aims to provide information on Ateneo’s undergraduate programs for 1,000 prospective students.
The Ateneo Department of Interdisciplinary Studies thanks ISA leaders who designed posters and labels, created the presentation deck for the SOH Dean, and set up the display using materials lent by the Department of Fine Arts, the IS Department, and the Literature and Cultural Studies Program to showcase student works and publications in the arts and Humanities. It is inspiring to see students taking the lead in sharing their experiences and insights and communicating with fellow youth as only they can. Good job ISA!!
Thanks are also in order for IS Dept. Chair Dr. Nikki Carsi Cruz, and IS staff Racky Tizon and Maegan Monterde Abundo, and Dean Patricia Panganiban and the SOH Dean's Office staff, for supporting ISA with materials, assistance, and guidance!
