A DISTINGUISHED VOICE IN PSYCHIATRY JOINS MLQU
Manuel L. Quezon University proudly welcomes Gerardine Josefina L. Sayo, M.D., a distinguished Psychiatrist and medical professional, as a new Faculty Member and valued member of the MLQU academic community.
A graduate of the University of Santo Tomas College of Medicine, Dr. Sayo has built a career that bridges psychiatry, geriatric medicine, mental health education, public service, and community engagement. Professional profiles have recognized her as a medical consultant in Psychiatry, Geriatric Medicine, and Gerontology, as well as a resource person in radio, television, and professional seminars.
Dr. Sayo has also been recognized for her commitment to community service and accessible healthcare. In a Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) outreach initiative, she provided free medical and psychiatric consultation to residents in need, demonstrating her commitment to extending professional service beyond the clinical setting.
Her professional engagement extends into public mental-health education and media, where she has shared her expertise with broader audiences. She has also been associated with television and radio programs addressing issues related to mental health and human relationships.
Among her notable media engagements is her participation as part of the “Trio Tagapayo” of TV5's Face to Face, bringing psychiatric and mental-health perspectives into conversations involving real-life interpersonal and family concerns.
Her professional standing is further reflected in her inclusion among the regular members of the Philippine Psychiatric Association, the country's professional organization for psychiatrists.
Beyond clinical practice and academic work, Dr. Sayo has demonstrated a strong commitment to service, professional leadership, and mental-health advocacy. Her experience provides an important bridge between medical practice, psychiatric knowledge, community service, and education.
