Media and Politics Forum

21/03/2026

On March 19, 2026, the 12th Media and Politics Forum, “Fun, Fearless–and Fierce: Reporting while Female,” was held at Leong Hall by SocSc 180i classes under the guidance of Sir John Nery, in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation.

In celebration of National Women’s Month, the forum spotlighted the voices and experiences of women in journalism, featuring award-winning journalist Luchi Cruz-Valdes. Through a candid dialogue, she reflected on her journey from a young reporter to a seasoned journalist, highlighting the grit, courage, and resilience that defined her career.

The discussion explored the realities of reporting while female—from navigating newsroom challenges to breaking barriers—while emphasizing the power of truthful storytelling in shaping public understanding.

Ultimately, the forum served as a reminder that women have every right to redefine and embody what fearless journalism looks like.

Are you ready to take a stand with us?

This March, we not only celebrate women, but we acknowledge the misogyny and discrimination they face—especially in the newsroom. Time and time again, women have proven themselves strong and powerful despite criticism, despite risk. The question is, where will you stand?

Join us as we celebrate journalism through a rose-colored lens at the 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝟭𝟮𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘂𝗺: 𝗙𝘂𝗻, 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀—𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗲: 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗙𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗲, where renowned and respected journalists 𝗟𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗶 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝘇-𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗱𝗲𝘀 and 𝗣𝗶𝗮 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘀-𝗣𝗮𝗴𝗸𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗻 will grace the stage with their presence and speak on issues centering media in the Philippines and how women play a key role in the field. Listen to their stories. Hear their voices. Make a stand.
