Product Value is Perception: Prototyping Effective Labels and Packaging to Increase Market Value of Products

Labels and packaging are used to protect products, to attract customers, and to promote brand loyalty. Effective label designs increase the value of goods and the sales of businesses. Some even say that we pay primarily for the packaging and the product is just secondary. For this reason, marketeers spend time in designing appealing covers that will make a brand above from the competition. Successful brands strive to create quality products without forgetting the importance of its packaging.

In this webinar, Engr. John Mark Espaldon is going to talk about how digital fabrication technologies are supporting the design and development of labels and packaging for various products in different industries. The discussion will focus on the fabrication process, the materials flexibility, and the applications of each technology. At the end of the webinar, the participants will also learn about the services of the SSF FabLabs for designing and rapid prototyping. Come and join this webinar to learn how you can design product packaging that sells.

Fashion Finds Technology: Upscaling Wearable Designs through Digital Fabrication

We started to wear clothes in ancient times to protect ourselves from the environment. And as our societies become more complex, we wear what we wear to show our social identity and to make us more functional. Today, fashion trends give us the opportunity to express our personality and creativity. Our choice of apparel and accessories usually aligns with the occasion, the trend, and even with our mood. The evolving functions of wearables results to varieties and complexities in design. To meet the market demands, businesses should be able to accelerate its design and product development.

In this webinar, Engr. John Mark Espaldon is going to talk about how digital fabrication technologies are supporting the design and development of various wearables such as garments, bags, footwear, and accessories. The discussion will focus on the fabrication process, the materials flexibility, and the applications of each technology. At the end of the webinar, the participants will also learn about the services of the SSF FabLabs for designing and rapid prototyping. Are you ready for the future of fashion?

What are the technical competencies that robotics education can hone?

Help students understand actual applications of classroom concepts through experiential education. Dobot has tools for manufacturing processes such as 3D printer, laser engraver, gripper, suction cup, and pen. With the smart factory ecosystem, these tools enable students to simulate industrial applications such as palletizing & sorting, smart detection, motion flow control system, automated assembly line, and automatic production system.

Robotics in the engineering curriculum can enhance the following technical competencies of the students: math and problem solving, programming, prototyping, simulation of manufacturing processes, machine operation and design, instrumentation and control like Internet of Things (IOT), and artificial intelligence.

What engineering courses can robotics enhance?

Simulate manufacturing processes with Dobot's smart factory ecosystem. Its conveyor belt kit features adjustable speed, distance, and color sensor for actual factory applications. On the other hand, the linear rail kit extends the working space of the robot for various manufacturing tasks. Learning artificial intelligence and automation system are also integrated with Dobot's AI and Vision kits. These provide students with experiential training on voice recognition and vision-based industrial applications.

With all the potential projects and activities, robotics education can be integrated in the following engineering courses: programming, instrumentation, electronics, mechatronics, industrial robotics, and engineering artificial intelligence.

How can FabLabs enhance the experiential learning of students?

Experiential learning is the process of learning by doing. One way to promote this is to require students to produce tangible outputs as a form of assessment. By doing this, learners are better able to connect concepts and theories in the classroom to real-world applications.

Digital fabrication technologies enable students to prototype their projects without the need to outsource production. With their digital files, learners can turn their ideas to life in just a few hours. Design iterations are also more convenient to execute with rapid prototyping. These features make capstones projects and prototypes more polished and easier to produce.

How do FabLabs promote interdisciplinary collaboration?

It is a common practice in the industry to have teams composed of various professions. Designers, engineers, and business professionals work closely for them to solve complicated problems in crucial projects. Such interdisciplinary collaborations should also be promoted in the university-level so that graduates will be prepared in the industry-setting.

FabLabs are collaborative spaces where learners from all colleges can work on projects. By having various perspectives from several backgrounds, students can be holistic in problem-solving. Universities can try implementing multidisciplinary thesis groups. Or even, it can try forming startups with faculty from several departments and colleges.

How can universities go beyond their academic mandates?

Tertiary institutions go beyond their academic mandates through meaningful engagements with the community and the industries. Colleges also hold events and programs that make the university life more colorful. These initiatives require universities to outsource production for projects and paraphernalia.

As a fabrication center, FabLabs also serve as production houses and profit centers for universities. Digital fabrication technologies have endless applications due to its materials flexibility. The university can use it to produce paraphernalia such as banners, plaques, trophies, tokens, and event uniforms. It can also serve as an income generating center to make the university more sustainable.

Why do patients prefer dentists who go digital?

Gone are the days when patients have to bite alginate to get the dental impressions. This is hassle for the dentist, uncomfortable for the patient, and takes more time with trial-and-error.

3D scanners make the dental workflow simple and seamless. It captures dental impressions without the use of conventional mold-making. With the use of Artificial Intelligence, digital impressions are 67% more accurate than traditional techniques.

Patients prefer clinics that make them comfortable. As scanning allows dentists to complete full and accurate impressions in minutes, there will be less chair time, less anxiety, and no gagging for patients.

Handheld 3D scanning is an effortless experience! It is calibration-free and is always ready to use.

How flexible is 3D printing when it comes to dental applications?

Fabrication of dental appliances does not need to be difficult and time-consuming. With 3D printing, you can directly import digital impressions and print models in just a few clicks. It also features automated washing and curing so you will have a hands-off post-processing.

3D printing has diverse applications on dental appliances. With relentless research on resins, dentists can now 3D print dental appliances such as models, surgical guides, lifelike dentures, and permanent restorations! The technology even enables dentists to seamlessly switch between a library of dental resins with a hassle-free cartridge system.
