Neuroscience supports this need for play.

At Scholaris Learning and Development Center, structured play and free play are integrated into the daily routine and lessons for all levels.

Our students get a LOT of sunshine, nature, movement and music that is so integral to brain development, memory retention and data retrieval. The most benefits are seen in emotional regulation and stress recovery.

The most important core value among SCHOLARIS' 3 core values is Care for Others.

This means we notice and listen, we smile, we respect, we help and we comfort. Teacher to student, student to student, student to teacher, teacher to teacher.

It's not always perfect, we all make many mistakes. When we do, we strive to repair them in a compassionate way, carefully trying our best to maintain the self-esteem of everyone, valuing the dignity of each one.

What matters at the end is if we our school community is helping each other to raise good people, because good people make good societies.

What values are we reinforcing in our classrooms?

Do we only reward students who speak the loudest? Or do we create multiple ways for students to engage, participate, and feel included, even when they are quiet?

In Educational Psychology, Self-Determination Theory reminds us that people thrive when three needs are supported: autonomy, competence, and relatedness.

And maybe right now, that last one matters deeply.

Because times are hard.

The heat is exhausting. Power outages disrupt routines. Gas prices and daily expenses continue to rise. The news can feel heavy. And many students are carrying things we may never fully see.

Sometimes, the classroom becomes one of the few stable spaces students enter in a day.

A place where they are greeted. A place where somebody notices if they are absent. A place where they can speak, or stay quiet for a while, without disappearing completely.

And this is also part of education.

Not just performance. Not just productivity. Not just building ourselves. But learning how to live with and care for other people, too.

It’s easy to turn inward when everyone is surviving something. But maybe one of the most meaningful things classrooms can offer right now is relatedness. The feeling that even in difficult times, someone still sees you, hears you, and makes space for you.

So maybe this week, we ask:

What kind of classroom are we building for students of the future?
