Dedicated to fostering positive change, we are the Global CFAH Project—a dynamic initiative working in the Philippines and three Small Island States: Fiji, St. Lucia.

Brgy. Community Profile & Children’s Story Book Dissemination across study sites.

🌱 From a Real Story to an Inspiring Storybook

One of the final dissemination activities of the Global Community Food for Human Nutrition and Planetary Health in Small Islands (Global CFaH) project is the distribution of Maningning ang Hardin to elementary schools, day care centers, and barangay local government units across the project communities in Palawan.

Maningning ang Hardin is more than just a children’s storybook— it is inspired by a real story.

The story follows Ningning, a young girl from Puerto Princesa City, whose life changed when her mother, Aling Grace, became part of the Global CFaH project. Through the project’s activities, Aling Grace learned the importance of healthy eating, home food production, and proper nutrition. These simple but meaningful changes gradually improved their family’s well-being and became the inspiration behind Ningning’s story.

By sharing their journey, we hope to encourage more children and families to appreciate healthy food, make better nutrition choices, and realize that even small changes at home can make a big difference.

As the Global CFaH project comes to a close, Maningning ang Hardin represents one of its lasting legacies— transforming real experiences from our partner communities into a story that can continue to educate and inspire future generations.

Strengthening International Collaboration through the Fiji Learning Exchange

The WPU delegation participated in a learning exchange in Fiji under the Global Community Food for Human Nutrition and Planetary Health in Small Islands (Global CFaH) project, strengthening international collaboration among Western Philippines University (WPU), the University of the South Pacific (USP), and FRIEND Fiji. Building on the earlier exchange in Palawan, the visit promoted mutual learning on community-led food systems, agroecology, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods.

A major milestone of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between WPU and USP, represented by WPU President Dr. Amabel S. Liao, establishing a long-term partnership in research, academic exchange, postgraduate training, scientific publications, and community engagement.

The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to His Excellency Noel M. Novicio, Philippine Ambassador to Fiji, and Ms. Emmylou B. Felimer, Second Secretary and Consul. Discussions highlighted the Global CFaH project and explored opportunities to strengthen international collaboration in food and nutrition security, community-led agroecological food systems, climate resilience, biodiversity conservation, research, and capacity building between the Philippines and the Pacific.

The delegation also visited FRIEND Fiji and community project sites to learn about locally led initiatives in sustainable agriculture, food security, disaster preparedness, and rural livelihoods. These engagements provided opportunities to exchange best practices, identify future collaborative initiatives, and reaffirm the shared commitment of WPU, USP, and FRIEND Fiji to advancing resilient food systems and sustainable development through international partnerships.

A legacy begins with a single seed. 🌱

The Global CFaH–Philippines Seed Bank Groundbreaking Ceremony brought together the Fiji delegation, RIDE personnel, and project partners to celebrate a major milestone of the Global CFaH Project. Led by VP Omar of RIDE, the Seed Bank will help conserve indigenous and locally adapted seeds, strengthen food security, and support resilient farming communities for generations to come. This legacy initiative supports household food security while reducing dependence on external seed sources by strengthening local access to quality planting materials.

Together, we are building a lasting legacy that will continue to serve communities long after the project has ended. 💚🌾

🌱 Building a sustainable food future begins with bringing the right people to the same table.

The Palawan Dialogue on Sustainable Food Futures gathered experts from the Philippines and Fiji to exchange insights on agroecology, indigenous knowledge, food systems, women’s empowerment, and community resilience. The dialogue also welcomed students from the different colleges of Western Philippines University, providing them with a platform to contribute their insights and engage in meaningful discussions with practitioners and researchers.

Because when knowledge is shared, communities are empowered, and young people are given a voice, we're not just growing food—we're cultivating the future.

Researchers from Fiji and the Philippines reflected on the Global CFaH journey through People, Process, and Products lenses while confronting the challenge of turning research into lasting community impact during the Global CFaH Fiji-Philippines Investigators Workshop held on June 24 at the ABBA Building.

The discussions made one thing clear: sustainable development is achieved not by working in silos, but through collaboration, accountability, and communities remaining as the heart of every decision 🌱🤝

🌱 Every ending plants a new beginning.

The June 19–21 Global CFaH Philippines 2026 Project Culmination at Club Agutaya celebrated the project’s milestones together with researchers, university leaders, and development partners. The culmination was honored by the presence of the WPU President, Dr. Amabel S. Liao; DOST MIMAROPA Regional Director, Dr. Bernardo "Aido" N. Sepeda; and the first DOST MIMAROPA Regional Director & Global CFaH Advisory Committee, Dr. Ma. Josefina P. Abilay, who reminded everyone that research succeeds only when it transforms lives, empowers communities, and inspires action.

Because the best projects don't end with a closing program—they continue in every community they have helped cultivate. 💚
