In a number of phrases the word forms are modified or a word is omitted where grammatical construction of the sentence would compel it's restoration when transcribing
In a civil case, the principal parties are generally:
Plaintiff โ The person or entity who brings the civil action before the court.
Defendant โ The person or entity against whom the civil action is brought.
Other terms you may encounter
Petitioner โ The party who files a petition, particularly in cases initiated by petition.
Respondent โ The party against whom a petition is filed.
Third-Party Plaintiff โ A defendant who brings a third-party action against another person for contribution, indemnity, or another proper claim.
Third-Party Defendant โ The person brought into the case by the third-party plaintiff.
Intervenor โ A person or entity allowed by the court to join an existing case because they have a legal interest in the matter.

People of the Philippines โ The State, which prosecutes the criminal offense. In a criminal case, the case is generally captioned in the name of the People of the Philippines.
Accused โ The person charged with committing the offense.
Private Complainant โ The person who reports or alleges that they were harmed or that an offense was committed. In a criminal case, the People, rather than the private complainant, is the prosecuting party.
Prosecutor โ The government lawyer who represents the People and conducts the prosecution.
Defense Counsel โ The lawyer who represents the accused.
Private Prosecutor โ A private lawyer who may assist in prosecuting the criminal action, subject to the applicable rules and authority of the public prosecutor.

Judge โ The judicial officer who hears the case and ultimately resolves it.
Witness โ A person who gives testimony concerning facts relevant to the case.
Expert Witness โ A witness with specialized knowledge who gives an expert opinion when properly qualified.
Court Interpreter โ Assists in interpreting testimony or proceedings when interpretation is necessary.
Court Stenographer โ Records the proceedings and prepares the transcript of stenographic notes.
