This was what Given Angelo M***a shared after learning that he had been adopted and believing that winning might be the reason his mother would one day come back for him.
At just 12 years old and soon to graduate Grade 6 from Maragusan, Davao de Oro, Given Angelo, an orthopedically handicapped, carries more than just dreams inside the playing field. He carries hope in his heart.
Behind his golden victory in DAVRAA is a story of sacrifice, pain, and determination. His first try at joining the competition ended in disappointment after he failed to qualify, but instead of giving up, he trained harder and kept chasing his goal.
He pushes himself harder each day, holding on to the hope that, one day, his mother will finally come home for him.
His coach, Mary Jessica R. Fernandez, emotionally shared, โGusto bitaw nako na madaog gyud si Given Angelo para magkita na gyud sila sa iyang mama ug ma-proud sa iyaha.โ
Despite lifeโs struggles, Given Angelo dreams of becoming an engineer someday so he can build a house of his own, knowing the hardships of not having one at present.
There were moments when exhaustion almost pushed him to give up, but he kept reminding himself that there is always something worth fighting for.
One of the things he plans to do with his cash prize, if ever he wins, is to give it to the aunt who lovingly took care of him. For his fellow athletes, his simple yet heartfelt message remains: โManingkamot lang para sa kaugmaon.โ
Indeed, if a young boy like him continues to fight bravely for his dreams and for his family, who are we to complain about life when he himself keeps pushing forward for his future?
