Snails have been used since the Medieval ages for their medicinal properties. A thousand years ago, the slime was used by apothecaries to relieve burns. And recent research has shown that it was a good remedy, as snail slime contains antioxidants, antiseptic, anaesthetic, anti-irritant, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and antiviral properties, as well as collagen and elastin, vital for skin repair.
Today, snail slime is used for both cosmetic and medicinal purposes. Recently, slug and snail gel has been tested as an alternative to stitches, and a medical adhesive.
