This July 30, 2026 โ at 9:00 in the morning, Mother Theresa Colegio de Polangui Inc. conducted a seminar-orientation on child protection, deadly weapons, and anti-bullying to raise awareness about the rights, safety, and welfare of the school community.
The event started with the singing of the national anthem and followed by opening remarks from Coach July Mora, Officer-in-Charge, who emphasized the importance of awareness, discipline, and shared responsibility in creating a secure learning environment. The program was hosted by Ms. Dyan S. Paguio, who served as the master of ceremonies and guided the audience throughout the event.
The institution is pleased to welcome Mr. Jose Delfin Bento from Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) and, PLTCOL Edgar E. Azotea and PCPL Ma. Angelica A. Leviste from our Municipal Police as our esteemed speakers.
The first seminar is about child protection. Mr. Jose Delfin Bento emphasized that every child has the right to be protected from all forms of abuse, exploitation, violence, neglect, and discrimination in the home, school, online, and the community. It also highlighted the importance of recognizing the signs of abuse, respecting children's rights, and encouraging children to seek help from trusted adults or the proper authorities whenever they feel unsafe.
The discussion also introduced important laws that protect children, including ๐๐๐ฉ๐ฎ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ญ ๐๐จ. 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, which provides special protection against child abuse and exploitation; ๐๐๐ฉ๐ฎ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ญ ๐๐จ. 10627 or the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013, which addresses bullying in schools; and ๐๐๐ฉ๐ฎ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ญ ๐๐จ. 9344, or the ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐๐ง๐ข๐ฅ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐๐ and ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐๐ญ ๐จ๐ 2006, which promotes the rights and welfare of children in conflict with the law.
The seminar served as a reminder that child protection is a shared responsibility of families, schools, communities, and the government in ensuring that every child grows up in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.
The second lecture was delivered by PLtCol Edgar E. Azotea, who discussed the dangers of bringing deadly weapons into schools. He also explained in detail some possible scenarios about carrying or using illegal fi****ms that will drastically change a child's life. He highlighted the legal implications, risks, and serious consequences of possessing or carrying weapons, stressing that safety begins with individual responsibility and informed decision-making.
To keep participants engaged, an energizer activity was conducted, allowing students to refresh and actively participate before the succeeding session.
The third lecture was facilitated by PCPL Ma. Angelica A. Laviste, who focused on anti-bullying awareness. Drawing from her own real-life experience as a victim of bullying, she shared a heartfelt testimony that resonated with the audience. She also discussed the different forms of bullyingโphysical, verbal, social, and cyberbullyingโand encouraged students to become advocates of kindness, empathy, and respect while standing against all forms of abuse and discrimination.
One of the highlights of the seminar was the discussion of Republic Act No. 10627, also known as the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013. Students learned that the law requires all elementary and secondary schools in the Philippines to implement policies that prevent and address bullying. The school's Anti-Bullying Policy was also explained, including the proper procedures for reporting incidents and the responsibilities of students, teachers, and school officials in ensuring a safe learning environment.
Following the informative discussions, a Certificate of Appreciation was presented to the guest speakers in recognition of their valuable contributions and unwavering commitment to educating the youth.
The event concluded on a lively and meaningful note as students, faculty members, and Municipal Police personnel joined together in performing the Anti-Bullying Campaign Dance, symbolizing unity, cooperation, and a collective stand against bullying in schools and communities.
The program formally ended with the closing remarks delivered by Ms. Margie M. Cleofe, Branch Head, who expressed her gratitude to the guest speakers, police personnel, faculty members, and students for their active participation. She encouraged everyone to apply the lessons learned and continue promoting a culture of safety, respect, and responsibility both inside and outside the campus.
The seminar served as a significant reminder that safeguarding children is a shared responsibility and that awareness, compassion, and collective action are key to building a school where every learner feels protected, respected, and empowered.
