Growing up in Oriental Mindoro, May Jhune Lope Sadicon walked through mud just to get to school — today, he teaches science to young learners in one of the most remote communities in the United States.

His inspiring career has taken him across the world—teaching in Thailand, serving as an assistant accreditation supervisor in Saudi Arabia, and instructing at local colleges right here at home. Today, he serves as an Elementary Science Teacher at Sidney C. Huntington School under one of Alaska’s largest school districts. He proves that an EMITS education opens doors anywhere on the map
A Trailblazing Journey of Excellence:

From hardship to triumph, her story is a powerful testament to perseverance, faith, and the life-changing impact of opportunity.

Thirteen years ago, Agapita Palmones entered the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) as a struggling mother of three young children, burdened by poverty and the heart illness of her husband. Life was so difficult that there were days when their family survived on packed noodles and dried fish. Yet, despite these overwhelming challenges, she carefully stretched every cash grant to cover their most urgent needs—school expenses, rice, medicine, and daily survival.

Rather than surrender to hardship, she used every opportunity to rise. She began serving her community as a volunteer Barangay Health Worker (BHW), eventually earning a regular position through dedication and hard work. Her journey of service continued as she was promoted to Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS), proving her determination to improve not only her family’s future but also the welfare of others.

Though family responsibilities forced her to temporarily step away, her commitment to public service remained strong. In 2018, she successfully won a seat as barangay councilor, while also serving as a Pantawid Pamilya Parent Leader for more than 40 fellow 4Ps members.

Then came the pandemic—an unexpected crisis that became a turning point. Instead of allowing adversity to stop her, she embraced it as a chance to pursue a long-held dream: finishing college. In an inspiring display of courage, she enrolled in college alongside her eldest child.

Balancing studies, family life, barangay responsibilities, and leadership in 4Ps was far from easy, but she pressed on with unwavering faith.

“Hindi madaling pagsabayin ang pag-aaral, pamilya, trabaho, at tungkulin bilang Parent Leader, subalit kinaya ko sa biyaya at tulong ng Panginoon.”

Her perseverance bore fruit. In 2024, her eldest child graduated, passed the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET), and secured employment as a teacher. Just one year later, on June 1, 2025, she herself graduated with a degree on Bachelor of Elementary Education. Their household also reached self-sufficiency based on SWDI assessment on 2025, which led to their long-waited graduation from the program—a clearer proof of how far their family has come since becoming simple beneficiaries of 4Ps.

But perhaps the most emotional milestone came on May 12, 2026, when the LET results were released. Amid a power outage and anxious anticipation, her life changed forever when her child exclaimed:

“Ma, nakapasa ka sa LET! Pasado ka!”

Overwhelmed with joy, disbelief, and gratitude, she could only respond:

“Haa? Totoo? Nakapasa ako? Thank you Lord! LPT na ako!”

Her success was not hers alone—it was a victory for her family, her faith, and the support system that helped carry them through years of struggle. She credits both God and the 4Ps program as vital forces behind her transformation.

“Nagpapasalamat ako sa Panginoon, dahil ipinagkaloob Niya na makapasa ako. Pangalawa, nagpapasalamat din po ako sa Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) sapagkat malaking bahagi po ng aming tagumpay ang naitulong ng programang ito.”

Today, from a once-struggling 4Ps beneficiary, she proudly stands as a Licensed Professional Teacher—a living example that poverty does not define one’s destiny.

Her journey sends a powerful message to fellow 4Ps members and to every family facing adversity: “Magpatuloy tayong maging magandang ehemplo at huwaran sa iba. Huwag nating sayangin ang tulong na ibinigay sa atin.”

Indeed, her story proves that while life may begin in hardship, determination, service, education, and faith can lead to extraordinary success. She is no longer just a beneficiary—she is an inspiration, a role model, and a proud symbol of hope.
