According to Richard Davidson, neuroscientist and psychologist, the pillars of a healthy mind include awareness, connection, insight and sense of meaning and purpose. Cycling happens to move towards these fours pillars.

1. The rhythmic motion of pedaling helps you stay present in the moment, making you become aware of your body, breath, and surroundings.

2. Cycling builds social and environmental bonds. Whether riding with other cyclists or other commuters, cycling nurtures belonging and community spirit, promoting empathy and cooperation. Choosing to bike connects you to your environment and local spaces.

3. Quiet moments on the road allow self-dialogue and emotional processing, stimulating reflection and problem-solving.

4. Whether your reason to bike is to reduce your carbon footprint, achieve a healthy body, save from transport expenses, or reduce pollution and road congestion, a ride is always full of meaning and purpose. Cycling aligns lifestyle with values.

On this day (October 29, 2021), The American Psychological Association formally apologized for its longstanding contributions to systemic racism, marking a milestone in psychology’s institutional self-reflection.

The apology acknowledged psychology’s participation in racial injustice through biased research, discriminatory practices, and silence in the face of oppression. But it also reaffirmed a renewed commitment to equity, inclusion, and healing, both in psychological science and in society.

Today, we are reminded that psychology is not neutral.
It is a living, evolving discipline that must continue to confront its own past to shape a more just and compassionate future.
