Ever felt like no one really notices when youโre quietly struggling at work or at home? ๐
Youโre not alone in feeling that way. According to Gallup (2026), Filipinos remain rank #1 in daily loneliness in Southeast Asia, and carrying that heavy weight silently can feel isolating.
Thatโs why reaching out matters more than ever. ๐ซ
Having someone you can talk to when youโre not okay can already make a world of difference. Studies show that even ONE positive, caring connection can act as a protective factor against mental health challenges and thoughts of su***de (Dutton, 2020).
There might also be times when you hear people say statements like โjust think positiveโ or โpray about it.โ For some, this can be comforting and helpful, but for others, especially in their lowest moments, it might not be the right words they need to hear. Thatโs why having someone to reach out to can be an important step alongside other forms of support (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 2013).
Reaching out may not be a fix-all, but it is one way we can show care, build connection, remind someone that theyโre not alone, and that they have someone there with them while they are facing challenges. By normalizing these small acts of support and breaking the stigma around talking about mental health and su***de, we create spaces where itโs safe to share, be heard, and be seen. ๐ซถ
This Su***de Prevention Month and beyond, letโs try to build the habit of reaching out. A simple message, a quick call, or even a โtara, kapeโ can mean more than you think. Your care could be the lifeline someone needs, or at least a reminder that someone cares for them. ๐
