A Mother’s Real Talk -_-
My dear child,
I want to say something honestly—not to make you feel guilty, not to remind you of everything we have done for you, and certainly not because we expect you to repay us.
As your parents, we chose to sacrifice for you because we wanted you to have a better life. We worked hard, endured difficulties, and did whatever we could to help you finish your studies. We did not do those things expecting something in return.
What we hoped for was simple: to see you build a good life for yourself.
We know your potential. We know what you are capable of, and we see the opportunities that are in front of you. That is why, sometimes, it hurts to see those opportunities being ignored or taken for granted.
Maybe you don't understand why we keep telling you to make something of yourself. It is not because we want to control your life or decide everything for you. It is because we can see possibilities in you that you may not be seeing in yourself right now.
And yes, sometimes I find myself thinking, “Sayang naman ang pinag-aralan mo.”
Not because education guarantees success, and not because your worth depends on your career or how much money you make. Your worth as our child will never be measured by your income.
But after everything we went through to help you reach this point, naturally, we hope to see you use what you have learned and make something meaningful out of it.
As parents, one of the greatest joys we can have is seeing our children become successful—not necessarily rich, but stable, independent, responsible, and happy with the life they have built.
We want to reach the point where we can say, “Okay na siya. Kaya na niya. Kahit wala na kami someday, alam naming kaya niyang alagaan ang sarili niya at ipagpatuloy ang buhay niya.”
That is the kind of financial freedom we hope for you.
It is not about giving us money.
It is not about paying us back.
It is about knowing that the sacrifices we made helped you become someone who can stand on your own.
Maybe someday, when you become a parent yourself, you will understand why a mother can be genuinely happy seeing her child succeed—even if she receives nothing from it.
So please don't misunderstand our reminders as pressure or demands. They come from concern, love, and sometimes, even fear for your future.
We will always love you regardless of what you choose in life.
But because we love you, we will also be honest with you:
You have potential. You have opportunities. You have an education that many people wish they had. Please don't take those things for granted.
We are not asking you to live the life we want.
We simply hope you will build a life that, one day, you yourself will be proud of.
And when that happens, believe me, that will already be one of the greatest rewards a parent could ever receive.
We don't need you to repay our sacrifices.
We just want to see that they were not wasted.
Love,
Mom
