Understanding voltage (V), current (I) and resistance (R)
Voltage is measured in volts, current in amperes, and resistance in ohms.
For easy understanding, we can refer to our plumbing system, voltage is similar to water pressure, current is the flow rate and resistance is the pipe size. That is, if we increase the voltage, more current will flow. Remember the formula, V=IR (Ohm's Law).
Increasing the diameter of the pipe (similar to decreasing resistance) will make more water flow.
Many are wondering why current is represented by the letter "I". Some explain that when they needed a letter to represent current in formulas, C had already been used, so they decided to use the next unused letter of the alphabet, turned out to be "I". A better reason is during the early days of studying electricity, current was called Intensity. Don't confuse with Impedance, though (the symbol for impedance is Z).

Flashover fires in a basement bar in a Swiss ski resort killed 40 people and injured more than 115.

Several risk factors were neglected like:
1. indoor pyrotechnics specifically sparkler candles/fountain flares placed in champagne bottles which reportedly ignited the soundproofing foam in the ceiling, causing a rapid flashover fire.
2. crowded venue - resulted to stampede
3. poor oversight - lack of safety checks on bar practices
4. global precedents - Rhode Island Station Nightclub where 100 people died. No sprinklers were installed in the old building.

A lookback at the QC Ozone Disco fire in 1996 shows how overcrowding and poor safety enforcement can be as deadly as pyrotechnics.
