This #𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐨𝐔𝐧𝐨, we especially remember all Filipino workers and laborers. We celebrate the importance of labor and recognize the ordinary sacrifices behind the country we enjoy today. We value their work, but beyond this, we value their rights as persons—to fair wages, to workplace safety, to rest.

In today’s volatile economic landscape, the role of the ordinary worker is more relevant than ever. As part of the Political Dynamics course for Lex Honors and Political Economy students, Dr. Nick Alviar invited Francis Joseph "Kiko" Aquino Dee to give a lecture on “People Power: the Role of Civil Society in Democracy Building.” He is a political analyst and a member of the prominent Aquino political family. As the grandson of former senator Benigno Aquino Jr. and former president Corazon Aquino, he has been active in political commentary and historical preservation efforts in the Philippines.

Kiko Dee has been vocal about preserving accurate historical narratives of the Philippines' democratic struggle. He has emphasized remembering the EDSA while cautioning against its politicization in contemporary conflicts

He graduated magna cm laude from the University of the Philippines Diliman with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, followed by a Master of Science in Political Science and Political Economy from the London School of Economics.

𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 is the outreach initiative of the PEP0410 General Sociology class in collaboration with POLIS, aimed to create a space for 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 through hands-on activities and formational sessions.

Today, we commemorate 𝐀𝐫𝐚𝐰 𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐧—a tribute to the heroism, resilience, and sacrifice of those who stood their ground during one of the most defining moments in our nation’s history. Their courage, forged in the face of hardship and uncertainty, reminds us of the strength it takes to defend not just land, but identity and freedom.

More than a remembrance of the past, this day calls us to carry these stories forward. We remember not simply to honor, but to ensure that the sacrifices made are never forgotten or reduced to mere history. In remembering, we preserve the values of courage, unity, and love for country that shaped who we are today.

𝐑𝐄𝐂𝐀𝐏: Earlier today, the UA&P School of Politics and Governance, together with UA&P POLIS, hosted the forum 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭. Led by speaker 𝐌𝐫. 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐜𝐨 of the Foundation of Economic Freedom, the talk delved into Philippine history, key features of the Philippine Constitution, and how these play into the current political and economic landscape.
