ctto: The Manila Collegian

A 2025 report by the Philippine Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics revealed that there are only 98 developmental-behavioral pediatricians in the country. In 2019, the Commission on Human Rights reported that 1 in every 100 Filipinos or 1.2 million Filipinos in that year have autism.

This means that there are only 1 available developmental-behavioral pediatrician in the country for every 12 thousand PWAs.

Along with the early detection and initial screening, accessibility for autism care remains sparse due to the shortage of allied medical professions within the field of occupational therapy and speech pathology, with less than 6,000 occupational therapists and approximately 400 speech pathologists that are currently active.

🌟 “GUIDING LIGHT OF CARE”
Hymn for Autism Response PH

Verse 1
When sirens call and tensions rise,
We stand with open hearts and eyes,
To meet each soul with gentle care,
And guide each moment with awareness rare.
Approach in peace, not threat or fear,
Let understanding draw us near.
(Remember A.U.T.I.S.M. C.A.R.E.)

Chorus
⭐ Light of empathy and trust,
Guide our hands when help is just.
With calm and care in what we say,
We walk beside them on their way.
In every call, with love we share,
The truth of A.U.T.I.S.M. C.A.R.E.

Verse 2
A — Approach in quiet ways,
soft tones, calm steps through each phase.
U — Understand touch may start
a flight-or-freeze response in heart.
T — Talk in calm voice; pause and wait,
let answers come, don’t rush their state.
(Remember A.U.T.I.S.M. C.A.R.E.)

Chorus
⭐ Light of empathy and trust,
Guide our hands when help is just.
With calm and care in what we say,
We walk beside them on their way.
In every call, with love we share,
The truth of A.U.T.I.S.M. C.A.R.E.

Bridge
I — Instruct direct, simple and clear,
so they can hear without fear.
S — Seek to see what’s happening now,
stay present, grounded — show us how.
M — Maintain distance safe and wise,
a softer space where stress can rise.

Verse 3
C — Communicate; caregiver’s voice
guides us best, a trusted choice.
A — Advocate — they do their best,
look for options that ease the test.
R — Restrict the noise, lights, and sound,
minimize what can confound.
E — Eyes on the prize — your patient’s care,
compassion leading every prayer.
(Remember A.U.T.I.S.M. C.A.R.E.)

Final Chorus
⭐ Light of empathy and trust,
Guide our hands when help is just.
With calm and care in what we say,
We walk beside them on their way.
In every call, with love we share,
The truth of A.U.T.I.S.M. C.A.R.E.

Outro
May every responder stand aware,
prepared with training and heartfelt care.
So when they meet a life in need,
their knowledge acts, compassion leads.
