For immediate release to all media and the general public: The Football For Peace Movement is deeply grateful to the Inter Airline Charity Football Tournament; through their generosity, Calbayog City Samar FC’sU15 squad was able to compete at the Sinulog Cup in Cebu.

With funds raised by the first Inter Airline Charity Football Tournament held at Atleta63 Turf Bridgetowne, Pasig, Metro Manila, Philippines held January 20, the Football for Peace Movement was able to provide the remaining balance needed for Calbayog City Samar FC to compete in the 12th Sinulog Cup tournament at Dynamic Herb Borromeo Stadium in Cebu last weekend, where they finished in the round of 16.

Calbayog City Samar FC was founded and is coached by renowned Filipino sculptor and painter Florence Cinco, a member of the Football For Peace Movement coaching staff. Coach Cinco established the club in 2022 to meet the social emotional needs of economically disadvantaged youths in the public school system of the Calbayog City area, and provide an incentive for them to stay and succeed in school. For the competition, Coach Cinco used recycled plastic containers to fashion shinguards for his players. The squad Coach Cinco fielded at the Sinulog Football Tournament is comprised of youths who trained at the Football For Peace Movement camp held in Calbayog City, Samar last June.

Located in the eastern Visayas, Samar is one of the most war-torn islands in the Philippines, surviving through the historical memory of atrocity after atrocity committed against its population over several major conflicts since the colonial period. Until recently, a communist insurgency thrived in the mountains of Samar. Today, the people of Samar are enjoying an era of peace and development. Sustained programs such as Calbayog City Samar FC are vital to the civic service infrastructure, engaging with youths directly on the pitch, building cognitive development, physical health, and the strength of character to persevere in the struggle to overcome some of the most extreme poverty in the country, while representing their community playing a beautiful game.

The Inter Airline Charity Football Tournament was organized to build camaraderie between pilots, first officers and other employees who are normally competitors on flight routes to, from and within Southeast Asia - Philippine Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and United Airlines. On January 20, the four airlines came together as one community and selected Football For Peace Movement, Inc. as the recipient of their fundraiser. The tournament also featured Philippine National Team star Stephan Schrock as a guest player.
