Good afternoon Science-terrific peepz!!!
🌈 DID YOU KNOW?!? 🌈
Fact 1:
A multi-colored arc that we see in the sky is a rainbow. It is not an object but an optical phenomenon. You cannot touch it or feel it as it has no physical existence. It is made up of light that reflects and bends. You can never reach the end of a rainbow as it moves along with the view and does not have a static or stationary position in the sky.
Fact 2:
The word β€œRainbow” is derived from the Latin word β€œarcus pluvius,” which refers to a β€œrainy arch.” It is called a rainbow because its shape looks like an archer’s bow. It is the universal symbol of peace and harmony and also renewed hope.
Fact 3:
A rainbow arch is visible when light refracts at a 42-degree angle opposite the Sun, allowing us to see seven bands of white light with our naked eyes.
Fact 4:
Rainbows can be seen only on the planet Earth in the whole solar system.
Fact 5:
No two people can see the same rainbow, and that makes rainbows so special. How the light is being bent and reflected matter, and that is why everyone sees something differently.
...there's a rainbow always after the rain...

On this day in 1960, the Soviets finally achieved a roundtrip animal spaceflight, bringing the dogs Strelka and Belka back to Earth alive, after a series of failed attempts. This eventually paved the way for the dawn of human spaceflight a few months later.

After the success of Sputnik 1, the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union intensified, focusing on advancing space technologies and achieving the ultimate lunar mission. In July 1960, Soviet scientists tested their Vostok life-support system with two dogs, Chaika and Lisichka, but a tragic accident claimed their lives. Unfazed, the Soviets launched Sputnik 5 (Korabl Sputnik 2) just a month later on August 19, 1960.

The mission carried two dogs, Strelka and Belka, along with 42 mice, a rabbit, flies, plants, and fungi. Equipped with a television camera, the capsule orbited Earth before safely returning on August 20, 1960. This mission marked the first successful roundtrip to space and back with living creatures, paving the way for Yuri Gagarin’s historic human spaceflight just months later.

When the telephone was invented, the first opening greeting was "Ahoy!", until Thomas Edison popularized the word "Hello" on this day in 1877. Since then, that word has indeed influenced our lives - like with "Hello, Garci?" and "Hello, Madlang Pipol!"

Despite being one of the most recognized English words today, "Hello" has a surprisingly short history of about 150 years. According to Merriam-Webster, the word "Hello" was first documented in the early 1800s, not as a greeting but as an expression of surprise.

When Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone in 1876, a challenge arose: how could one person know when the other wanted to speak? Edison offered a solution by suggesting the use of "Hello!" because it could be heard from a distance of 10 to 20 feet. This suggestion proved to be pivotal.

Meanwhile, at Bell’s rival company, there was an argument in favor of using "Ahoy!" as the telephone greeting. However, this idea was soon eclipsed by "Hello," which eventually became the standard. As telephone exchanges were established across the United States, instruction manuals began promoting the use of "Hello." By 1880, "Hello" had firmly established itself as the preferred greeting.
