Respect isn’t a rule we post on the wall. It’s the bow-in before class. It’s the tap that isn’t a loss. It’s helping the kid who just tried to submit you get back up. These learnings don’t just stay on the mat. 🙏🏻

When Marvin first shared his story with us, he said:

“The real transformation happened inside.”

Last Saturday, we watched him step onto the competition mats and prove exactly that as he reached another milestone.

Silver Medalist in his white belt competition debut at the BJJFP 2026 Manila International Jiu Jitsu Open. 💪

Marv made an incredible statement in his very first match, earning a 13–0 victory—an impressive performance from someone who trains while balancing fatherhood, running a business, and the responsibilities of everyday life.

As a husband, father of three, co-founder of a digital commerce agency, and someone who only started Jiu-Jitsu in his late 30s with no martial arts background, Marvin is proof that it’s never too late to begin.

🥈 His medal represents far more than wins on the scoreboard. It represents consistency, humility, courage, and the willingness to keep learning despite a busy life.

Congratulations, Marv ! Thank you for reminding everyone that showing up consistently can change your life. 🔥

It’s the 10th year of Cobrinha in Manila. 🐍

Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles Maciel Rubens Cobrinha Charles is the creator of the Super Grand Slam, 5x IBJJF Black Belt World Champion and 3X ADCC Champion. In 2016, he flew into Manila for the first time to run a 5-day training camp for a local and passionate team, then called Valores BJJ.

What started as one seminar grew into an official affiliation, then into four Manila-based black belts promoted under his wing, and eventually into a full transition to Alliance Jiujitsu Manila and Clark.

Ten years of mentorship. Ten years of showing up. Ten years of a team choosing to keep training under someone who kept choosing to come back.

Today, we mark this decade with the next level: Professor Cobrinha is officially CEO of Alliance Jiu Jitsu Manila and Clark.

Here’s to the next 10 years of getting better — on and off the mats. 🥋

The annual GA with Prof Rubens Charles Maciel “Cobrinha” moved beyond jiu-jitsu — heartfelt testimonies and stories on the culture of good character and skill that keeps the community together, and the realities of priorities vs burnout.

The Seminar brought together athletes from all over the globe, from different teams, to learn from the best of the best in the sport we all love. More than specific techniques, Cobrinha gave a deeper understanding of the fundamental concepts and how take things to the next level.
