DID YOU KNOW? Filipinnovation celebrates science, stewardship, and community-driven conservation.

National Scientist Angel Chua Alcala, a Ramon Magsaysay Awardee, pioneered the establishment of marine protected areas in the Philippines. His groundbreaking research demonstrated that safeguarding small portions of coral reefs can restore fish populations and sustain coastal livelihoods.

Through science-based innovation and strong community engagement, Dr. Alcala helped reshape marine conservation policy in the Philippines and inspired similar efforts across Southeast Asia. His recognition by the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation affirms the global impact of Filipino-led solutions for sustainable development.

𝗘𝗫𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗦 𝗔 𝗩𝗢𝗜𝗖𝗘. Under TESDA's 14th Director General, Secretary Suharto T. Mangudadatu, the TESDA's recent Annual Report of 2023 offers successful fulfillment of the agency's common goal - 𝑺𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒂 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒕 💙 .

Last year, TESDA launched the National Technical Education and Skills Development Plan (NTESDP 2023-2028), that serves as the national blueprint for the Philippine TVET sector with a theme "MaGaling at MakaBagong TVET para sa Bagong Pilipinas: TVET as Pathway to Recovery and Social-Economic Transformation”. TESDA further reinforced its area-based and demand-driven TVET as a central strategy, hence, achieving impressive increase in training output, producing over 1.3 million TVET graduates, surpassing the commendable numbers from previous years.

The NTESDP is spearheaded by TESDA with technical assistance and support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) under the USAID Opportunity 2.0 Project of the Education Development Center (EDC). The IRIS was contracted by the EDC to implement the "Galing TVET: Futures Thinking, Innovations, and Pride in TVET in Post-pandemic Philippines — Agenda Setting and Formulation of TESDA's 5th Cycle NTESDP 2023-2028" Project.

[INFO] The PHILIPPINES' performance in Science, Technology and Innovation for the 2023 edition of the Global Innovation Index has been released, improving three (3) spots to 56th this year from 59th last 2022, as it maintained its 5th spot among the ASEAN member states.

The recent GII report also highlights that the country, among middle-income economies, is making most headway in innovation and is one of the top climbers of the decade (ranking 90th in 2013 to 56th in 2023). The Philippines also keeps their "innovation overperformer" status for a fifth time.

There is a mixed picture for leading emerging economies, with Indonesia rising fast over recent years, the Philippines and Viet Nam progressing again and India stable, but with China, Türkiye and the Islamic Republic of Iran falling back slightly, possibly in part due to recent COVID-19 induced effects.

The Innovation input of the country has remarkably risen seven notches (69th from 2022's 76th), while the Innovation output declined by 1 notch (52nd from 2022's 51st).
