The Studentsโ€™ Rights and Welfare (STRAW) Committee firmly condemns the sexist and objectifying remarks made by Rep. B**g Suntay during the House Committee on Justice hearing on March 3, 2026. It is particularly egregious that these remarks were made as our nation begins the celebration of National Womenโ€™s Month, a time dedicated to honoring the strength, achievements, and rights of women. This disturbing trend of misogyny is further highlighted by a recent report, which detailed the derogatory commentary made by Atty. Ferdinand Topacio against actress Jasmine Curtis-Smith and others. By reducing the professional social media presence of women like Ivana Alawi to mere objects for "lust" rather than for art or endorsement, Topacio reinforces the same harmful stereotypes we see mirrored in our legislative halls.

As an organization dedicated to the protection and empowerment of the student body, we believe that the standards of conduct within our national institutions directly influence the safety and culture of our own academic spaces. When a public official or a prominent legal figure uses their platform to reference women as objects of "imagination" or spectacles for views, it is not a harmless joke; it is a direct assault on the dignity of all women and a dismissal of their right to be seen as professionals and individuals.

We refuse to accept the normalization of language that reduces women to objects for the male gaze, especially during a month meant to champion their empowerment. Such behavior from a lawmaker or a high-profile commentator is not only shameful but fundamentally unbecoming of any individual who influences public discourse. By allowing these comments to pass without challenge, we risk validating a culture where harassment is trivialized and professional spaces from radio booths to the House of the People are transformed into venues for locker-room talk. STRAW demands that Rep. B**g Suntay and those who echo such sentiments issue a public apology and take full responsibility for their words.

Our advocacy for studentsโ€™ rights is inseparable from our fight for gender equality. We believe that every individual deserves to exist in a space, whether it be a classroom, a courtroom, or a digital platform, where their humanity is prioritized over their appearance. In this month of empowerment, we call on our national leaders and influencers to uphold a higher standard of decency and to remember that sexism has no place in a society striving for progress. We remain vigilant in our commitment to ensuring that respect is the baseline, not the exception, in every facet of our society.

โ€œWalang mababastos kung walang bastos!โ€

Women are not objects of commentary, imagination, or judgment. They are leaders, innovators, and changemakers shaping the future of our society.

This International Women's Day, we join the global community in celebrating the strength, resilience, and achievements of women who continue to shape our society and inspire progress.

Recent conversations online remind us that respect for women must always remain at the center of public discourse. Reducing women to objects of imagination or commentary undermines their dignity and disregards the many ways they contribute to society. True empowerment begins when women are recognized for their leadership, ideas, and influenceโ€”not judged or diminished for how they choose to express themselves.

Today and always, we salute you. Abante, Babae! โœŠ๐Ÿšบ

Four decades ago, history was shaped not by force, but by faith, courage, and unity. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

The 40th Anniversary of EDSA reminds us that when Filipinos stand together, meaningful change becomes possible. It was not just a moment in timeโ€”it was a powerful declaration that democracy belongs to the people.

Even as this day is observed as a special working holiday, the STRAW Committee encourages everyone to reflect on the values that defined EDSAโ€”solidarity, integrity, and the unwavering belief that the voice of the people matters. May these values live on in how we lead, how we speak, and how we stand for what is right.

Hindi ito kuwento ng nakaraan lamangโ€”ito ay patuloy na panawagan hanggang ngayon.

Buhay ang diwa ng pagkakaisa. Buhay ang diwa ng EDSA. โœŠ

Under Article I, Section 1 (Gโ€“I) of the PhilSCA Student Manual, students have the right to freely express their opinions and suggestions, with access to proper communication channels within academic and administrative offices of the school.

Students also have the right to form, establish, join, and participate in recognized organizations that promote intellectual, cultural, spiritual, and physical growthโ€”provided these are not contrary to law.

Moreover, students have the right to be free from involuntary contributions, except those approved by their own legitimate organizations or societies.

Your voice matters. Your organizations matter. Your choice matters. ๐Ÿ’œโœˆ๏ธ

Every smooth flight runs on clear systemsโ€”and for PhilSCA (NAAP) students, understanding your rights ensures transparency and fairness.

Students are also entitled to the issuance of official documentsโ€”such as certificates, diplomas, transcripts of records, grades, and transfer credentialsโ€”within thirty (30) days from request.

In addition, students have the right to publish a student newspaper and similar publications, and to invite resource persons during assemblies, symposia, and similar academic activities.

Clear records. Timely documents. Freedom to publish and participate. ๐Ÿ’œโœˆ๏ธ

โ€œMula Kamalayan Tungo Sa Gawa: Pag-Unlad Ng Autism-Ok Philippinesโ€

This National Autism Consciousness Week (January 19โ€“25, 2026), the Studentsโ€™ Rights and Welfare Committee (STRAW) stands in solidarity with individuals on the autism spectrum by promoting understanding, respect, and inclusion. ๐Ÿซ‚โœจ

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is not something that can be fixed or changedโ€”it is a natural part of human diversity. By challenging discrimination and breaking stereotypes, we move closer to a community where differences are not judged, but embracedโ€”a uniqueness that shouldnโ€™t perish, but be cherished.

When we choose empathy over negative criticism, we create spaces where neurodivergent individuals feel safe, valued, and empowered to thrive.

Join us as we raise awareness, spread compassion, and advocate for a future where every child and every individual is respected for who they are and what they are.

Hindi kakulangan ang pagiging naiiba,
sa pag-unawa nagsisimula ang tunay na halaga. ๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’œ

As we mark the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women, we choose to stand with every woman who has ever felt unseen, unheard, or unsafe. Violenceโ€”whether spoken, hidden, or toleratedโ€”has no place in our homes, campuses, or communities.

To every girl and woman who has ever been belittled, doubted, or silenced: You are worthy of safety. You are worthy of dreams. You are worthy of a life free from fear.
In the world of aviationโ€”or any fieldโ€”your place is yours to claim.

This campaign reminds us that ending VAW is not just a responsibilityโ€”it is a commitment to humanity. When we choose to protect women, we choose a kinder, safer, and more just future for all.
Let us be the generation that listens, cares, and acts.
Let us be the community where women feel safe, empowered, and uplifted. Because a VAW-free community is not just a hopeโ€”itโ€™s a responsibility we share.

10/12/2025

Human rights are the foundation of every voice, every dream, and every fight for a better future.

On this December 10, we recognize International Human Rights Dayโ€”a reminder that fairness, dignity, and equality belong to everyone, everywhere. These rights arenโ€™t given by any school, organization, or governmentโ€”theyโ€™re inherent, and they deserve to be protected at all times.

As a community, letโ€™s continue creating a space where students can speak freely, stand up without fear, and be treated with respect. Your rights are your powerโ€”use them, defend them, and never let anyone silence them. โœŠ๐Ÿป
