🦠 HEALTH PREVENTION ADVISORY:LEPTOSPIROSIS

The NU-MOA Health Services Office reminds everyone to take extra precautions against leptospirosis, especially during the rainy season and after flooding.

πŸ’§ What is Leptospirosis?

Leptospirosis is a bacterial infection that can be transmitted through contact with water, mud, soil, or surfaces contaminated with the urine of infected animals, particularly rats. The bacteria may enter the body through cuts, wounds, or the eyes, nose, and mouth.

⚠️ How to Protect Yourself

βœ… Avoid wading or swimming in floodwater, whenever possible.
βœ… If contact with floodwater is unavoidable, wear waterproof boots, gloves, and protective clothing.
βœ… Cover cuts and wounds with waterproof dressings before going outdoors.
βœ… Wash hands and feet thoroughly with soap and clean water after possible exposure to contaminated water or soil.
βœ… Keep your surroundings clean and free from garbage that may attract rats.
βœ… Properly store food and dispose of waste in covered containers.
βœ… Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
βœ… After exposure to floodwater, clean and disinfect footwear, clothing, and other items that may have been contaminated.

🚨 Watch for Symptoms

Symptoms may appear 2–30 days after exposure and may include:

🌑️ Fever
πŸ€• Severe headache
πŸ’ͺ Muscle and body aches, especially in the calves and lower back
πŸ‘οΈ Red or irritated eyes
🀒 Nausea or vomiting
πŸ₯Ά Chills
😴 Weakness or fatigue
🟑 Yellowing of the skin or eyes in severe cases

πŸ₯ When to Seek Medical Attention

If you develop fever or other symptoms after exposure to floodwater or potentially contaminated water/soil, consult a healthcare professional immediately. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent serious complications.

DO NOT self-medicate with antibiotics. Seek medical advice for proper assessment and treatment.

🌧️ REMEMBER:

β€œIwas Lepto, Iwas Bahaβ€”Keep Yourself Safe!”

Your health and safety matter. Let us work together to prevent leptospirosis and protect our NU-MOA community.

Stay informed. Stay protected. Stay healthy, NU-MOA! πŸ’™πŸ’›

Greetings from the Health Service Office.

The Health Service Office would like to remind everyone to stay vigilant and practice proper hygiene and environmental sanitation to prevent Hantavirus infection, especially during this season where rodents may become more active.

What is Hantavirus?
Hantavirus is a rare but serious viral infection primarily transmitted through contact with infected rodents, particularly rats and mice. Humans may become infected through exposure to rodent urine, droppings, saliva, or contaminated materials.

Mode of Transmission:
Hantavirus may spread through:
β€’ Breathing in air contaminated with rodent urine, droppings, or saliva
β€’ Direct contact with infected rodents or their waste
β€’ Touching contaminated surfaces then touching the eyes, nose, or mouth
β€’ Rodent bites (rare cases)

Signs and Symptoms:
Early symptoms may appear 1–8 weeks after exposure and may include:
β€’ Fever and chills
β€’ Headache
β€’ Muscle aches and body pain
β€’ Fatigue or weakness
β€’ Nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain
β€’ Cough and shortness of breath (in severe cases)

Please seek immediate medical consultation if you experience these symptoms, especially after possible exposure to rodents or rodent-infested areas.

Prevention Measures:
To reduce the risk of Hantavirus infection, everyone is encouraged to:
β€’ Maintain cleanliness in classrooms, offices, and surroundings
β€’ Properly dispose of garbage and food waste
β€’ Avoid leaving food exposed
β€’ Seal holes or spaces where rodents may enter
β€’ Wear gloves and masks when cleaning rodent-infested areas
β€’ Avoid sweeping or vacuuming rodent droppings directly; instead, disinfect the area first
β€’ Wash hands regularly with soap and water

Management:
Currently, there is no specific cure for Hantavirus infection. Early detection and supportive medical care are important to prevent severe complications. Individuals with symptoms are advised to consult a physician immediately for proper evaluation and treatment.

Let us all work together in maintaining a clean and healthy environment to protect ourselves and the community from preventable diseases.

Thank you for your cooperation and stay safe.

Building life-saving skills from the ground up! πŸ—οΈβ€οΈ

Our NSTP 1 Architecture students traded their drawing boards for hands-on practice as they joined the Health Caravan for CPR Awareness last August 5, 2026.

As future architects, designing safe environments goes hand-in-hand with knowing how to respond in emergencies. Here’s a quick look at how our students learned the fundamentals of CPR and emergency response at the 12th Floor Multipurpose Hall!

Key Takeaways from the Caravan:

Hands-On CPR Training: Mastering proper compression depth and rhythm.

Emergency Preparedness: Recognizing critical signs when immediate action is needed.

Community First: Applying civic duty beyond the blueprint.

A huge thank you to the organizers and instructors for empowering our future builders to be life-savers! πŸ©ΊπŸ“
