| USJ-R ELEMENTARY DEPARTMENT SHIFTS TO SYNCHRONOUS (ONLINE) LEARNING AMID UNHEALTHY AIR CONDITIONS

The University of San Jose-Recoletos Elementary Department will shift to SYNCHRONOUS LEARNING tomorrow, September 21, 2026, following the Cebu City Mayor’s Public Advisory suspending face-to-face classes and work due to unhealthy air conditions affecting Metro Cebu.

In accordance with the advisory, face-to-face classes and work in the Elementary Department are suspended for the day. Instead, pupils will continue their lessons through synchronous learning under Schedule D, allowing learning activities to proceed while keeping pupils and personnel away from potentially unhealthy outdoor conditions.

Pupils are advised to access their respective section’s online class links at 7:15 A.M. and be ready to participate in their scheduled virtual classes. Parents and guardians are encouraged to help pupils prepare their devices, internet connection, and learning spaces ahead of the scheduled sessions.

The Elementary Department likewise reminds pupils and families to prioritize their health and safety, limit unnecessary exposure to the affected outdoor conditions, and remain attentive to official announcements for any further updates.

Learning continues, but safety comes first. The USJ-R Elementary Department remains committed to keeping its pupils connected to their lessons while responding responsibly to conditions affecting Metro Cebu.

| 1st SCAP Cebu Archdiocesan Leadership Conference

The Pupil Catholic Action (PCA) participated in the 1st SCAP Cebu Archdiocesan Leadership Conference, held on August 29–31, 2026, at the Don Bosco Retreat House in Talisay City, Cebu. The conference gathered student leaders from various educational levels, from grade school to college, providing them with an opportunity to understand and appreciate the diverse realities and challenges faced by the youth of today's generation.

Representing the department were 17 PCA leaders, accompanied by PCA alumni and their advisers, Ms. Michelle O. Mansueto and Mr. Joe Marie D. Ferolino.

During the Solidarity Night, the PCA delegation won the Best Presentation Award, proudly showcasing the vibrancy and spirit of PCA in the USJ-R Elementary Department. The event was graced by the presence of supportive PCA parents and guardians, the Pupil Activity Program Coordinator, Mrs. Marie Zar G. Balanay, and the Elementary Department Principal, Mrs. Jenelyn Longos.

In addition, during the Business Meeting, two current PCA members and one PCA alumna were elected to serve on the Archdiocesan Council, a testament to the leadership and commitment of the PCA members.

Leadership begins with the willingness to step forward, accept responsibility, and serve with purpose.

This school year, six young Girl Scouts take on leadership roles as the Junior GSP Corps Staff, bringing with them a shared commitment to teamwork, discipline, responsibility, and service.

Facing each match with focus and determination, Matteo Joaquin displayed confidence, quickness, and composure throughout the competition. He met every challenge with courage and refused to let pressure take away from his performance.

A creative eye, thoughtful storytelling, and a strong command of feature writing brought Joaquin Antonio E. Garces to 3rd Place in Pagsulat ng Lathalain at the Division Schools Press Conference 2026, held September 8 at Zapatera Elementary School.

Feature writing calls for more than putting words together. It requires the ability to see the human side of a story, develop ideas with depth, and engage readers through a distinct and meaningful voice. Joaquin Antonio demonstrated these qualities in his entry, earning a place among the division’s strong young writers.

His achievement also comes with an exciting next step. Joaquin Antonio has qualified for the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) in Bohol, where he will represent the USJ-R Elementary Department and the Cebu City Division on the regional stage.

A sharp eye for the game and a strong command of sports writing propelled Danica Stacy S. Azucena to 3rd Place in Pagsulat ng Balitang Pampalakasan at the Division Schools Press Conference 2026, held September 8 at Zapatera Elementary School.

Through her writing, Danica Stacy demonstrated her ability to turn fast-paced sporting events into clear, engaging, and well-focused news stories. Her achievement reflects the discipline and preparation needed to write with accuracy while capturing the action and significance behind every game.

Her strong showing at the division level has also opened the door to the next stage of competition. Danica Stacy is a qualifier for the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC) in Bohol, where she will once again represent the USJ-R Elementary Department as well as the Cebu City Division and bring her skills to the regional stage.

Guiding her throughout her preparation was her coach, Mrs. Liezel H. Acasio, whose mentorship helped sharpen Danica Stacy’s skills and readiness for the competition.
