Back then, we usually thought that bullies wore varsity jackets, hung out in groups, stole our lunch money, and did their signature move: snapping their fingers while they slowly crept towards you.
But in reality, none of that applies to this generation. As we slowly creep towards the โDigital World,โ our perspective on โbulliesโ slowly changes.
Amidst the ongoing situations where violence is prominent in Philippine schools, the Paracale National High School conducted its โProject S.E.C.U.R.E Campusโ held in the Paracale National High School court. The event lasted for two days, starting from August 10 to 11, 2026. The projectโs insight was to raise awareness about bullying, cyberbullying, cybersecurity, and campus safety.
Moreover, the Paracale National High School and the Paracale Municipal Police Station collaborated to convey a message to students from Grades 7 to 12. Students were not the only subjects to receive this treatment; teachers did as well. The program was led by PMAJ Emil S. Yebra, OIC of the station, as the guest speaker. Resource speakers who contributed to the event were Pcol John Ryan V. Pamesa, Assistant PCAD PNCo; PSSg Beverly Ann G. Trojillo, WCPD Officer; and PSSg Michael De Vera, investigator.
This was not your usual presentation, as many people think. But this event was a talk where the students had the chance to express their feelings, emotions, thoughts, ideas, and questions about bullying. The event was lively, with students exchanging information, experiences, and adding jokes as well. Itโs like adding your favorite seasoning to your well-cooked meal. Very humorous!
This event also highlighted the procedures for stopping or preventing bullying from happening, and overall how to be an accepted student on the school premises. Not only that, but they also addressed the problems regarding social media, how internet trolls and false news trick people's minds into believing false information, and gave solutions to these problems as the talk continues.
Although there are solutions, there are always flaws coming in their way. There have been threats made from social media that can cause bodily harm and anxiety among audiences. These are posted in dummy accounts, which are their way to evade detection from the authorities. This is a huge problem, specifically in framing. Because it can cause misunderstanding, confusion, and conflict.
And lastly, the speakers covered how to keep your banking, online accounts, passwords, and information safe from malicious entities on the internet and how to act when there is an active shooting in the school.
We can be bullies; we can bully, but we choose not to. A lot of bullies do it for pride, ego, status, and pleasure. But having these things does not mean that youโre good. We can achieve these even if we do not engage in bullying other people either personally or digitally. It is normal for us to make mistakes, sometimes. But being accountable, having empathy, and proving ourselves shows that we can still make a change in our fast-paced, growing environment. Being good is free. Why not try being one?
