𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗻 𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗶𝘅 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗺𝗮 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Not all Black Belt certifications are equal.

Some Six Sigma training schools offer only paper belts.

A real Six Sigma Black Belt certification should prove that you can lead improvement work, solve business problems, and deliver measurable results.

Here are the basic requirements to earn a credible Six Sigma Black Belt certification:

1️⃣ Attend a comprehensive Black Belt training program

A Black Belt program should be deep enough to cover Lean Six Sigma foundations, DMAIC, data analysis, root cause analysis, statistical thinking, solution design, control planning, and leadership in improvement work.

2️⃣ Pass written and practical exams

Understanding the tools matters. But knowing the tools is only the beginning.

A Black Belt must be able to explain, select, and apply the right tools in the right business context.

3️⃣ Lead and complete at least one real Black Belt project

This is the most important part.

Not a hypothetical case study. Not an academic paper. Not a recycled project forced to fit DMAIC.

A real Black Belt certification requires application to a real business problem, with real stakeholders, real data, real implementation, and measurable results.

🚩 Be cautious of Black Belt programs that:

❌ Are too short to build real capability

❌ Require only attendance

❌ Require only exams

❌ Use hypothetical case studies as project substitutes

❌ Award certification without a completed DMAIC project

❌ Are taught by people without real Six Sigma project leadership experience

Six Sigma is not just a topic to study.

It is a professional discipline that must be applied.

Your boss, clients, and future employers will not be impressed by a certificate alone.

They will look for proof that you can solve real problems and deliver measurable business results.

If you feel your salary is low, it does not automatically mean you are not working hard.

I’ve tried running this poll multiple times, with both executives and staff answering.

The result is consistently the same.

From highest to lowest perceived value:

1️⃣ Sales professional 1 year of service, ₱200M revenue/year

2️⃣ Process improvement professional ₱50M savings/year

3️⃣ Operations professional 6 years of service, renders weekly overtime

Why?

Because compensation is not based on effort alone.

It is strongly influenced by two things:

1️⃣The 𝗩𝗔𝗟𝗨𝗘 you create for the company

Does your work increase revenue, reduce cost, prevent losses, improve customer experience, reduce risk, or make the business perform better?

2️⃣The 𝗗𝗘𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗟𝗬 of people who can create the same value

Are there many people who can deliver the same output?

Or are you one of the few who can create that level of impact?

OMG 😱

I’m seeing it more and more.

Many of my students are now using AI to clean data, generate charts, run statistical analysis, and explain insights in minutes.

Tasks that used to take hours using worksheets and traditional statistical software can now be done with a few strong prompts.

So yes, very expensive tools like Minitab may become irrelevant ⬇️

Because the old value of statistical software was speed, structure, and convenience.

AI is now starting to deliver all three ✅️

at a much lower cost.
