Dear 17-year-old me,
I see you.
I see how hard you work, even when you are tired. I see the sacrifices you make and the dreams you quietly set aside because your family needs you. At an age when you should be enjoying your youth, you are already learning what it means to be responsible, to work hard, and to put the needs of the people you love before your own.
I know there were times when you wondered if life would ever become easier.
I wish I could go back and tell you that all your sacrifices will not be forgotten.
Today, I want you to know how proud I am of you.
You didn't have an easy journey. You carried responsibilities that were too heavy for a young heart, but you kept going. You worked with tired hands, a brave heart, and a faith that somehow told you to keep moving forward.
You learned to be strong because you had to.
You learned to be independent because life demanded it.
And you learned to love deeply because your family gave you a reason to keep fighting.
My dear 17-year-old self, I am sorry for all the times you felt you had to be strong when you really just wanted someone to take care of you.
I am sorry for the dreams you had to postpone.
I am sorry for the moments you missed because you were busy trying to survive and provide.
But please know this: you did something incredibly beautiful. You gave your best years to the people you loved.
And look at you now.
You are wiser. You are stronger. You have survived things your younger self never imagined. You have experienced joy and pain, success and failure, beginnings and endings. You have learned that life is not measured by how much you have, but by how much love you have given and how many times you found the courage to begin again.
I hope you know that I am proud of the woman you became.
You were never just a girl who worked hard to provide for her family.
You were a young woman with a big heart who chose love, responsibility, and sacrifice.
And now, my dear 17-year-old self, it's your turn to live for yourself, too.
Don't feel guilty for resting.
Don't feel guilty for choosing happiness.
Don't feel guilty for taking care of yourself.
You have spent so many years taking care of everyone else. You deserve to take care of the girl inside you who worked so hard just to make sure the people she loved were okay.
Dear Self, I want you to know that your story is not over.
There is still so much life to live.
There are still dreams to chase, places to see, people to love, and beautiful moments waiting for you.
So, keep going, my younger self.
Your sacrifices mattered.
Your tears mattered.
Your hard work mattered.
And every difficult day you survived helped create the woman I am today.
Thank you for not giving up.
Thank you for being brave.
Thank you for choosing to keep going, even when life was hard.
Now, I finally understand something you didn't know back then:
You were never behind in life. You were simply busy building a life for the people you loved.
And I am so, so proud of you.
With all the love you deserve,
Dang ❤️
