HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Masville Elementary School started as an annex of Fourth Estate Elementary School in June, 1990. Felicidad Santiago, the principal, decided to transfer 3 sections of grade 1 at Masville. Section 1 was located in the former chapel of Mangga Site under Exuperia Castro, who retired after a few months and was replaced by Miss HaideIraola, Section 2 was in a vacant lot in Mangga S
ite under the supervision of Ms. EustaciaDesepeda and Section 3 was handled by Ms. Lourdes Lopez and situated at the chapel of Silangan Site. Each section had 55 pupils who were all residents of Masville. After a few months, another section was created and this was situated in a rented room in Mangga Site. Through the earnest effort and initiative of the Homeowners of Masville with the leadership of 3 active members of the association, Mr. Jacinto Castro, a retired public school teacher, Mr. Ricardo Arcita, President of the Homeowners and Mr. Norberto Sarmiento, they decided to talk to with Mayor WalfridoFerrer for the construction of a school building at Masville. While waiting for the completion of the building, soliciting financial assistance from the PTA was done to construct a 4-room makeshift in Aratiles site to house the grade 1 pupils. The following school year (1991 – 92), Grade two classes were put up. Grade I resides in the morning session while Grade II in the afternoon session. Construction of 3-storey building with 9 rooms started in 1991 under the Local School Board fund and was completed under the newly elected Mayor Pablo Olivarez. In June, 1993, pupils were transferred to the new building and became a complete elementary school. Felicitas de la Cruz became the OIC in September, 1993 and was replaced by Mrs. Villar in October, 1994 also as an OIC. In June 1994, Masville Elementary School became an independent school. Construction of additional 6 rooms started in February, 1995 thus completing the 3-storey building with 14 classrooms. The enrolment grew rapidly under the administration of Mrs. RhodoraVillar, from 1274 in during SY 1994 – 1995 to 2230 pupils. As the number of pupils increases, the number of teachers also increases. From 26 teachers during SY 1994 – 1995, grew into 51 teachers. During Mrs. Villar’s administration, there was an interruption of almost a year. Sometimes in 1996, a new principal in the person of Mrs. Estelitadel Rosario was assigned. She did not stay long because she was transferred to Don Galo Elementary School. Villar, was again assigned as OIC until she became a full pledged principal in 2002. In her administration, she established a strong linkage with Save the Children. Parents, community members, pupils and teachers have undergone through different seminars and trainings led by Maribel San Miguel, the Project Manager of Sane the Children, Philippines. In 2004, Mrs. Villar was promoted to Elementary School Principal II and was transferred to F. Serrano Elementary School at Don Bosco. She was replaced by Dr. AmparoSunga. The number of enrolment was 2,114 and there were 54 teachers. On September5, 2005, Dr. AmparoSunga was promoted and transferred to Baclaran Elementary School Central. RosaliaMorit took over the responsibilities and was appointed Elementary School Principal I. There was a slight increase in enrolment and in the number of teachers. But in SY 2006 – 2007, the number of teachers was decreased from 56 to 52 because some of the teachers who were promoted were transferred to different schools. It was also on this school year that Mrs. Morit was promoted to ESP II. It was during Mrs. Morit’s time when the Golez building was constructed and Masville High School was established. She went through many struggles because of that. For four years, Mrs. Morit had accomplished several physical facilities development projects. On June 29, 2009, Mrs. Morit was promoted to ESP III and was assigned at F. Serrano Elementary School. She was replaced by Mrs. Dolora M. Zaragoza. Upon knowing the availability of computer resources, her first project was the conduct of “Go, MES Teachers and Multiply!: A Computer and Internet Literacy Program for Teachers.” She requested for internet connectivity and it was recommended by the Division ICT Coordinator, Dr. Joel T. Torrecampo and approved by Dr. Joel T. San Luis, Schools Division Superintendent. The school campus is now Wi-Fi free. Because of this project, she was able to solicit one computer unit from Rotary Club East. This NGO adopted Masville Elementary School for SY 2010 – 2011 and is willing to give what the school needs. On October 5, 2012, Mrs. Zaragoza was replaced by Mrs. Teresita S. Medina. Through the effort of Mrs. Zaragoza a 3-storey buiding with 6 academic classrooms was plan to established in Masville Elementary School but it was constructed during the administration of Mrs. Last July 2013, the new 3-storey building with 6 academic rooms was blessed and opened. It was occupied by the Kindergarten, Grade One, Two, Three and Four Pupils. At present, the school is standing tall with its 4 buildings: two (2) 3-storey building, one (1) with 14 classrooms and the other one (1) has 6 classrooms, a 4-storey building with 6 classrooms, a 2-storey building with 2 classrooms, and Golez building of High School occupying 2 classrooms for elementary, under the administraton and supervision of Mr. Rafael F. Centina. SCHOOL PROFILE
The School implements the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum for Kindergarten to Grade Three and 2002 Basic Education Curriculum for Grade Four to Grade Six as prescribed by the Department of Education.It is exploring and targeting goals that will lead pupils to excel in all aspects – moral, spiritual, mental and physical. Alternative Learning System is being conducted for Out of School Youth under Balik-Aral Program. They will take the Accreditation and Equivalency exam to assess the level they will enroll to if they decide to go back to school for regular class.The school is also conducting classes for Children with Special Needs. As of this school year, there are twelve (15) SPED pupils enrolled. Three of them are mainstreamed and the rest have their classes under the scheduled individualized instruction. As of date, The school has fifty-eight (58) faculty members, one (1) school head, one (1) school nurse, three (3) clerks, one (1) driver, five (5) watchman, and five (5) utility workers. Among the fifty-eight (58) faculty members, five (5) are Master Teacher I, five (5) Teacher III, nine (9) Teacher II, and twenty-nine (29) Teacher I. Of the twenty-nine (29) Teacher I, three (3) are Kindergarten Teacher. At present the school has four (4) buildings: three (3) 2-storey building with two (6) classrooms; two (2) 3-storey building with twenty-one (21) classrooms; and one (1) 4-storey building with seven (7) classrooms.It has a covered quadrangle and a stage.Out of the thirty-one (31) functional classrooms; four (4) classrooms are used for Kindergarten Classes, twenty-four (24) classrooms are used for Grades 1 to 6 Classes, one (1) for SPED. It also has one (1) Principal’s Office, one (1) Guidance Office, one (1) Clinic, one (1) canteen, one (1) library, and one (1) science laboratory.There are also one (1) toilet with three (3) bowls for female pupils and one (1) bowl for female teachers and one (1) toilet with two (2) bowl and three (3) urinals for male pupils and one (1) bowl for male teachers. There is also one (1) toilet with three (3) bowls for male and female pupils. There are four (4) academic classrooms with toilet and bowls. B. COMMUNITY PROFILE
Masville Elementary School is located at Masville, Sucat, Parañaque City with 1,578 square meters. It is adjacent to Sucat Interchange and South Superhighway. It is in the heart of Barangay B.F. Homes. The place is one of the crowded and depressed areas of the barangay. Numerous residential homes occupies three villages or pook–PookManggahan(Purok I, II, III IV), PookAratiles and PookSilangan where the acronym for Masville came from with 8.2 hectares comprising of 14,300 population and 1,340 number of household. The school is located strategically at the inner most part of the area. The Homeowners Association helped in the construction of the school buildings by following up the request from government officials. Through the collaborative and cooperative efforts of the teachers, pupils and community leaders, the pursuit of school programs and projects towards excellence and the production of responsible, uprights and competitive pupils will be achieved. GO’s and NGO’s like Natrapharm, Ateneo de Manila, Couples for Christ-South Chapter and Southville International School provide links with the school to attain the goals and targets it has for the betterment of the pupils. School Improvement Plan has been monitored intensely and serves as the school’s ladder to success.
