Unique Sounds in Our Mënubù Language!

Did you know that some letters in our Mënubù language have special marks and meanings?
These marks are not just decorations — they show how to pronounce words correctly and help preserve our authentic Mënubù sounds.

Here’s how they differ:

✨ e – sounds like “eh” as in pen
✨ ë – sounds like “uh” as in sofa

✨ b – strong “b” sound, like in bat
✨ b̒ – soft “b” sound, with air flowing between the lips (like v, but using both lips)

✨ d̒ – soft “d” sound, made with air passing between the tongue and teeth (like a light th in this)
✨ g̒ – soft “g” sound, made at the back of the mouth with air (somewhere between g and a soft h)

🗣️ These small marks — called diacritics — guide us on the true pronunciation of our words.
They remind us that every sound in our language is a piece of our identity, culture, and heritage.

Let’s continue to write, speak, and teach our Mënubù language with pride!

What’s the Difference Between “e” and “ë”?

In our Mënubù language, “e” and “ë” may look almost the same, but they sound very different — and can even change the meaning of a word!

✨ e – sounds like “eh” as in pen
✨ ë – sounds like “uh” as in sofa

For example:
👉 Mënubù – the name of our people, with “ë” (sounds like muh-noo-boo)

The two dots above the vowel (¨) are not for decoration — they guide us on how to say the word correctly and keep our language alive and accurate.

Let’s continue to honor and preserve our Mënubù language by writing and pronouncing our words properly. 💚

Unlocking the Secrets of Mënub͑ù Phonology! ✨

In Mënub͑ù, the pronunciation changes depending on the letters that follow each other, even across word boundaries. This "glued sound" phenomenon is particularly interesting when a word ending in 'N' meets a word beginning with 'K'. For example:
"nëngëɡ͑ën këy"
"intab͑un ku"
"nëtad͑in këy"
"ëdhalin ki"
"tug͑ën këw"
"nëud͑anan këy"
"ëd-halin kiyu"
sounds like it has an '𝚗𝚔' sound, similar to the English word "bank," despite the absence of an explicit '𝚗𝚐' in the spelling. This highlights the dynamic nature of language and the interplay between orthography and pronunciation. The phenomenon is likely connected to the place of articulation of the sounds involved.
