Hence, it is 74 years in existence today. This time it runs programs in the Junior and Senior High School of the K to 12 program. is one of the pioneering institutions in Northwestern Leyte and was established on June 1941 when the Visayan Institute in Cebu branched out to Palompon with the Northern Leyte Academy (NLA). ion was cut by the occurrence of World War II. From the rubbles of World War II in 1945, a group of young Palomponganons, particularly Minggoy Pastor and PepePayos who made shift huts nearby, Jesus Viacrusis, Ramon Eamiguel, ManingApostol, Tito Marcial and Beroy (surname), in their conversation, were able to see a concept that will address the need of their people for that education. Their casual conversation caused them to feel and see the town that the people is extremely pressing the need for at least a high school to open the opportunity for the hundreds of students to pursue their studies. Moved by this education, the group encouraged the people of Palompon to pool their resources that can revive Northern Leyte Academy. Take school was revived by the Palomponganons who themselves as the Palompon Cultural Association (PCA) that saw its birth on June 15, 1945 with the preamble of its constitution signed by the original 32 members that reads:

We, the undersigned citizens of the town of Palompon, Province of Leyte, aware of the tremendous importance of the role of the high school play in the cultural, moral, and social advancement of the youth of the land, and conscious of the need of forming one in order to lessen the burden of the state, endeavor to provide opportunities and facilities for higher education, do hereby form ourselves into an association. After having been granted government recognition, Northern Leyte Academy opened during school year 1947-1948. In 1948, PCA had morphed into the Northern Leyte Academy, Inc. Design and construction of the school building was undertaken by Engr. Guillermo Viacrusis in 1950. In the following year, formal classes sessions started in the new edifice with its new name, Northern Leyte College (NLC) emblazoned across its façade. Currently, Northern Leyte College is already classified as a higher education institution (HEI). It continues to offer the following programs;

• Four year under gradual programs under the supervision of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
• Post - secondary programs under the supervision of the Technical Education and Skills Developments Authority (TESDA) and
• High School or Basic Education program under the supervision of the Department of Education (DEPED)
