SAFES Dean Inspects JHCSC Dumingag Campus Facilities for the Proposed Enhancement of Analytical Laboratories in Support of Graduate Programs and Universityhood Initiative
Dapiwak, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur โ As part of J.H. Cerilles State Collegeโs continuing preparations toward universityhood, the Dean of the School of Agriculture, Forestry and Environmental Studies (SAFES), Dr. Emelyn D. Tormes, conducted an official visit to the SAFES Dumingag Campus to inspect existing laboratory facilities and assess the proposed enhancement of analytical laboratories in support of the planned Master of Science in Agriculture (MS Agriculture) and Doctor of Philosophy in Agriculture (PhD Agriculture) programs.
The visit primarily focused on evaluating the current condition of instructional and research laboratories and identifying priority areas for improvement to further strengthen the Collegeโs analytical laboratory facilities. Discussions also centered on the enhancement of laboratories in the fields of Crop Science, Soil Science, Crop Protection, and Animal Science, which are essential in supporting graduate instruction, research, and innovation.
The initiative supports JHCSCโs Universityhood Agenda, which prioritizes the expansion of graduate education, enhancement of research capabilities, and development of modern academic facilities that meet national quality standards. Strengthening the institutionโs laboratory facilities is a significant step toward ensuring that JHCSC is well-equipped to deliver high-quality graduate programs that address the needs of the agricultural sector and the broader academic community.
Dr. Tormes emphasized that well-equipped analytical laboratories are vital in providing graduate students with advanced scientific training and meaningful research experiences in areas such as animal science, crop science, plant biotechnology, crop physiology, plant breeding, soil science, and other emerging disciplines in agriculture. These facilities will also serve as venues for collaborative research, innovation, and extension initiatives that contribute to sustainable agricultural development in the region.
The proposed Master of Science in Agriculture and Doctor of Philosophy in Agriculture programs are envisioned to expand opportunities for educators, researchers, agricultural professionals, and aspiring agricultural scientists across the Zamboanga Peninsula and neighboring regions to pursue advanced studies while contributing to the generation of locally relevant and globally competitive agricultural research.
Through initiatives such as this inspection and planning activity, J.H. Cerilles State College continues to demonstrate its commitment to academic excellence, research productivity, graduate education, and institutional development as it advances toward achieving university status.
