Capt. Rene Maglasang, president of the Misamis Institute of Technology where he, among others, pioneered the "Project Alpha" which offers a "study now pay later" scheme of education. MIT’s students have been recognized worldwide since then. In recognition of the MIT’s high standards, the Norwegian International Shop Registry has given scholarship to at least 80 Filipino scholars and later the Norwegian certification agency Det Norske Veritas accredited and certified MIT’s Maritime Education Program as the world’s eight best and 17th best in the world as a maritime training center.
