The protection of student's rights and the promotion of accountability are fundamental to a just and responsible student government. Guided by the principles of fairness, due process, and the rule of law, the University Student Government Judiciary Assembly stands as an independent body committed to upholding justice within the University Student Government.
According to Article XVI, Section 1 of the University Student Government Constitution and By-Laws, the Judiciary Assembly shall be the sole body vested with judicial power. Such power includes the duty to settle actual controversies involving rights that are legally demandable and enforceable. Furthermore, it has the authority to determine whether there has been a grave abuse of discretion amounting to a lack or excess of jurisdiction on the part of any branch or instrumentality of the USG. The Judiciary Assembly shall likewise enjoy fiscal autonomy in the exercise of its functions.
Moreover, Article V, Section 6 affirms that every student has the right to be heard regarding complaints pertaining to any sector of the University and to have such concerns addressed promptly through the USG with formality.
Likewise, Article V, Section 14 recognizes every studentโs right to due process before any suspension, expulsion, or dismissal from the University may be imposed, provided that legal and valid grounds exist.
The Judiciary Assembly remains committed to safeguarding the rights of every student, ensuring accountability, and promoting fairness in accordance with the existing University policies, rules, and regulations.
