Upon completing your second or third year at MU Law, you may earn your ๐Œ๐š๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐‹๐ž๐ ๐š๐ฅ ๐’๐ญ๐ฎ๐๐ข๐ž๐ฌ, a masterโ€™s degree. You may then earn your ๐‰๐ฎ๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ ๐ƒ๐จ๐œ๐ญ๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ž๐ ๐ซ๐ž๐ž after your fourth or fifth year, depending on the program in which you are enrolled.

The Misamis University College of Law gave me more than a legal educationโ€”it gave me direction, purpose, and the values that continue to guide me in serving the law, the government, and the people.

I will always be grateful to our former Dean, Atty. Emmanuel Chiong (of blessed memory), and to my former professorsโ€”Judge Sitaca (Ret.), Judge Adlawan, Fiscal Jamoner (Ret.), Fiscal Tenchavez, and the late Judge Daingโ€”whose wisdom, mentorship, and dedication to legal education challenged me to strive for excellence. Their guidance, together with the support of the entire MUCOL community, helped shape not only the lawyer I became but also the person I am today.

Returning to my alma mater as one of its law professors is my way of paying it forward to the institution that helped carve my path in the legal profession. It is both an honor and a privilege to contribute to the formation of a new generation of lawyers, inspiring them to uphold justice, integrity, and service to othersโ€”just as my professors and mentors once inspired me.

Law school taught me endurance. The Bar tested it.

During the second day of the Bar Examinations, I suffered a severe allergic reaction. During the Civil Law examination, I forced my eyes open just to read the questions because they were swollen. I could feel the allergic reaction spreading from my face throughout my body. Following Supreme Court protocol, I was isolated from the rest of the examinees. By the afternoon Labor Law examination, I was fighting sleep. I had trained myself during review to fall asleep to the rhythm of the rain, and that day, the rain poured relentlessly. The antihistamine made it even harder. Alone in my seat, I kept pinching myself just to stay awake.

When the Bar tested me at my weakest, I discovered that my preparation at Misamis University College of Law was stronger than I had realized. I could almost hear Fiscal Jabines, our Civil Law Review professor, discussing a question on Succession. Many of the Labor Law questions drew from cases that had been assigned by Atty. Enerio, our Labor Law professor. By Godโ€™s grace, although I was physically disadvantaged, my preparation did not betray me when I needed it the most.

There were no perfect circumstances. There was only a choice.

I chose to keep answering. One question at a time. One problem at a time. One hour at a time.

Today, I have the privilege of serving our community in Ozamiz City as a Public Attorney. Looking back, I realize that I was more resilient than I ever knew.

Law school taught me endurance. The Bar simply revealed it.

At MU Law, my professors were known for hard recitations and heavy reading assignments that always seemed to demand more time than I had as a working student. Back then, I often saw them as strict and unyielding. But now, as a lawyer, I know that they were preparing me for challenges I had yet to understand.

When graduation came, I was hesitant to take the Bar immediately, even though my classmates were eager to do so. I felt unprepared and doubted whether I was truly ready. But the support from the entire MU Law community was so loud and warm that there was no room for the doubts that tried to linger in my mind. Looking back now, I am glad I did. Despite having only about two to three months of focused Bar review, I made it through. All of my classmates made it through as well.

During Bar review, their support never stopped. Beyond the review sessions, I would receive messages from professors sharing current events that might come out in the examinations or simply checking in on me. Maโ€™am Chai was also very helpful with all the required documents.

When the Bar examinations finally came, their support remained just as constant. They prepared packed lunches and Bar kits and made sure I had everything I needed on exam days. The band that welcomed us on all three exam mornings made the experience feel less lonely and reminded me that I was part of something bigger. It felt like one large support system quietly carrying us through one of the most difficult moments of our lives. By the last day, when I walked out of the gates after the final examination and saw everyone waiting outside, I was on the verge of tears. Their support was that genuine.

Somewhere along the way, passing the Bar stopped being my only goal. I wanted to make my professors proud. The same professors who once called on me during recitations and assigned readings that seemed impossible to finish were the very people cheering me on when it mattered most.

If there is one thing I know for certain, it is that I would not be a lawyer today without my MU Law professors. I am a lawyer because they challenged me, believed in me, and stood by me when I needed them most. For that, I will always be grateful.
