The Philippine National Police (PNP) conducted an Anti-Bullying and Sexual Harassment Awareness Seminar at the San Lorenzo Ruiz College of Ormoc Senior High School Department on September 21 and 22, 2026, respectively. The seminar aimed to strengthen studentsโ€™ awareness of their rights, responsibilities, and the importance of fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment.

The session was led by Angielyn R. Raagas, Patrolwoman and WCPD PNCO of Police Station 1, who discussed the provisions of Republic Act No. 10627, or the Anti-Bullying Act of 2013, and Republic Act No. 7877, or the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995. Students were guided in recognizing different forms of bullying, including physical, verbal, social and emotional, and cyberbullying, as well as understanding the importance of reporting, responding, protecting, and following through when incidents occur.

The seminar emphasized that every student has the right to feel safe at school and that respect is key to creating a secure learning environment. It also reminded students that the impact of an action matters, and that even something meant as a โ€œjokeโ€ can still cause real harm.

With awareness comes responsibility. By speaking up, showing respect, and looking out for one another, students can help build a school community where everyone feels safe, heard, and respected.

SciMath 2026 brought more than science and math to the SHS department as students also got to enjoy a variety of booths during the first two days of the three-day celebration.

Grade 12 students had their booths on September 21, selling different snacks, desserts, and street food.

On September 22, it was the Grade 11 studentsโ€™ turn to put up their booths, with more food, snacks, and desserts available around the SHS lobby. The Science Club also had a booth on both days, selling charms and other items.

The booths were a highlight of the event, adding to the activities throughout SciMath 2026.

For years, students of San Lorenzo Ruiz College of Ormoc have raised concerns regarding the dimly lit Walkway connecting the Senior High School Building to the College Building. As daylight fades, particularly after 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM, the pathway becomes increasingly dark, creating discomfort and raising safety concerns among students who regularly use it.

Recognizing the need to provide a safer and more secure campus environment, the Parents, Teachers, and Community Association (PTCA) of the Senior High School Department spearheaded the installation of four solar-powered lights along the Walkway on May 5, 2026. The PTCA members are composed of: Marizil Maglasang, PTCA President; Jasmine Castillano, PTCA Vice-president; Reylan Camallere, PTCA Secretary; Maricel Pascua, PTCA Treasurer; Andito Totlentino, PTCA Auditor; and Julie Ann Cortes & Renette Gasatan, PTCA P.I.O.

The lack of adequate lighting had long been a recurring concern within the campus community. Students remained on campus beyond regular class hours for extracurricular activities, organizational meetings, academic requirements, review sessions, and other school-related responsibilities often found themselves walking through the poorly illuminated pathway. The limited visibility not only made it difficult to navigate the area safely but also caused feelings of fears and uncertainty, especially in the evening. These concerns underscored the importance of addressing the issue to ensure the well-being and security of every student.

In response to these concerns, the 2025-2026 PTCA officers initiated a sustainable solution by installing four solar-powered lights along the walkway. Powered by renewable solar energy, these lighting fixtures provide reliable illumination throughout the evening while reducing dependence on conventional electricity. The project not only improves campus safety but also promotes environmental sustainability through the use of clean and energy-efficient technology.

The installation of the four solar-powered lights bought significant benefits to the school community. Most importantly, it enhances the safety and security of students, faculty members, and staff who use the hallway after sunset. Improved lighting increases visibility, minimizes the risks of accidents, and provides students with greater confidence and peace of mind as they travel between buildings during the evening.

Moreover, the project reflects the PTCA's commitment to responding to the concerns of the school community and supporting initiatives that create safer and more conduave learning environment. More than simply illuminating a pathway, the installation of the four solar-powered lights symbolizes the shared commitment of the PTCA of the Senior High School Department of San Lorenzo Ruiz College of Ormoc to addressing the needs of the campus community.

Through this initiative, the once-dark walkway has been transformed into a safer and more welcoming passage, reflecting the institution's dedication to student welfare, innovation, and responsible environmental stewardship.

What started as an uphill battle turned into a display of sheer determination, as the SLRC Basketball team turned every setback into fuel. They did not just chase the scoreboard; they chased the feeling of never giving up.

San Lorenzo Ruiz College of Ormoc, Inc. went head-to-head with Pedro G. Baรฑez National High School in a basketball match on September 6, 2026, at Campdownes Elementary School.

The match opened with both teams showing determination to score, trading possessions early as each side competed for the upper hand. SLRC found themselves trailing by a significant margin, but the team refused to back down, responding with key contributions as they fought their way back into the game. SLRC chipped away at the gap, with a clutch two-point shot standing out as a key turning point that injected fresh energy into their rally.

As the game neared its end, the pressure mounted on both sides, with every possession carrying extra weight. In the end, the opposing school held their composure down the stretch and secured the win, 63โ€“38. Still, San Lorenzoโ€™s determined rally remained a defining moment of the match, showing that a teamโ€™s fight can matter just as much as the final score.
