👏 Niña Jane Boholst and Curt Arvin Cuizon presented their study entitled:

“Detection of Healthy and Diseased Artocarpus heterophyllus (Jackfruit) Using YOLO-Based Bounding Box Annotation and Faster R-CNN.”

👏 Kraevee Vaulfer Ramada, Nixon Saises, and Bon Exzel Mosquera presented their research entitled:

“Development and Evaluation of a Web-Based Deep Learning System for Automated Jackfruit Disease Detection Using YOLO11.”

These remarkable projects highlight the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning in advancing precision agriculture and empowering farmers through early and accurate disease detection.

This presentation also serves as a stepping stone to an even bigger platform, as these research works are set to be presented at the upcoming International Conference co-hosted by the University of Danang–SDC and partner universities from India, to be held in Vietnam.

EXPLORING THE BLOCKCHAIN UNIVERSE 🔗🇻🇳🌐

In photos, the WLC-CICTE delegation had the opportunity to meet and gain incredibly engaging insights from Dr. Tran Van Dai at the Software Development Center (SDC), University of Danang, Vietnam, as part of the International Immersion Program 2026.

Today’s topic focused on a highly relevant field and one of the world’s biggest technological trends: Analysis on Supply Chain of Food Traceability through Blockchain Technology.

Far from being a dry discussion, Dr. Dai guided the Philippine delegates deep into the core concepts of Blockchain through practical and real-world applications. The students explored:

• Blockchain Data Structure – understanding how data is encrypted, linked into chains, and secured against potential risks.

• Supply Chain Flow – tracing the journey of food from farm to table with transparency, accountability, and clarity.

• Signature Generation Process – learning the essential mechanisms used to authenticate information, protect data integrity, and prevent commercial fraud.

Adding to the excitement, the students also had a hands-on experience using Remix IDE, where they explored the programming environment for writing and deploying smart contracts.

More importantly, this learning session serves as a valuable preparation for one of the major highlights of the International Immersion Program 2026 the upcoming Official Project Presentations, where the Philippine delegates will present their innovative projects before the esteemed SDC panel and lecturers in Vietnam. Equipped with new knowledge, global perspectives, and practical skills gained throughout the program, the students are steadily preparing to showcase their creativity, technical competence, and readiness as future IT professionals.

The Western Leyte College – College of ICT and Engineering delegation conducted a company visit to Rainscales Vietnam Co., Ltd., a pioneering technology company specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Computer Vision, and Intelligent Process Automation (IPA), located at Số 10-12 Thanh Lương 27, Phường Hòa Xuân, Thành phố Đà Nẵng, Việt Nam.

Rainscales recently gained national recognition as the First Prize Winner (USD 100,000) of the Qualcomm Vietnam Innovation Challenge (QVIC 2025), demonstrating its capability to deploy Vietnamese AI innovations on the global stage and contributing to a company valuation exceeding USD 10 million.

As part of the International Immersion Program 2026, the student delegates also participated in insightful mentor sessions delivered by Dr. Nguyen Ha Huy Cuong, Director of the Software Development Centre (SDC), The University of Danang. The sessions focused on:

•AI-Based Object Detection and Classification for Smart Agriculture

Through these sessions, students gained valuable knowledge on emerging technologies, artificial intelligence applications, digital innovation strategies, and real-world solutions addressing challenges in agriculture and industry.

International Immersion Program 2026 Officially Begins! 🇵🇭🤝🇻🇳

The Opening Ceremony of the Information Technology Immersion Program between Western Leyte College of Ormoc City, Philippines and the Software Development Centre (SDC), University of Danang, was successfully held on June 9, 2026, in Da Nang, Vietnam.

The ceremony was led by Dr. Nguyen Ha Huy Cuong, Director of the Software Development Centre, together with the Philippine delegation represented by the International Immersion Program Coordinators, Mr. Ian Celmar Avila and Ms. Leizel Grande.

During his welcome remarks, Dr. Cuong expressed his sincere gratitude to Western Leyte College President, Mr. Emmanuel A. Fiel, MBA, RN, and College of Information, Communications Technology and Engineering Dean, Mrs. Cheryl M. Tarre, MST-CS, MSCS, DBA (Cand.), for their unwavering support and commitment in strengthening international academic collaboration.
