On February 26, 2026, the Western Leyte College – School of Law and Government, together with the Occidental Leyte Bar Association, and in collaboration with the Municipality of Merida, carried out a Free Legal Aid Clinic in Merida, Leyte.

Volunteer lawyers rendered free legal consultations and notarized affidavits, certifications, and other essential documents, making legal assistance more accessible to members of the community.
Law student volunteers from the CLEP program of WLC provided valuable support, helping ensure the activity was efficient, organized, and responsive to the needs of the public.

The team also conducted a courtesy visit with the Municipal Mayor of Merida, reaffirming shared efforts toward strengthening community-based and people-centered legal services.

The Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP) students of Western Leyte College School of Law, together with their esteemed professors led by Dean Evergisto S. Escalon, attended the launching of the Tri-City Justice Zones in Tacloban City, Ormoc City, and Calbayog City, held at Sabin Resort Hotel in Ormoc City.

The initiative aims to combat Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC).

The Western Leyte College – School of Law and Government (WLC-SLG), in partnership with the Occidental Leyte Bar Association (OLBA) and in coordination with the Municipality of Isabel, successfully conducted a Free Legal Aid Clinic on February 16, 2026, at the Galicano N. Ruiz Center in Isabel, Leyte.

The activity was made possible through the dedication of volunteer lawyers who generously offered their time and expertise by providing free legal consultations and notarization of affidavits, certifications, and other essential documents.
The CLEP students of WLC also played a vital role in assisting the lawyers and ensuring the smooth and orderly flow of the event.

As part of the engagement, the team likewise paid a courtesy call on the Municipal Mayor of Isabel, further strengthening collaboration in advancing accessible legal services for the community.

On December 17, 2025, the Western Leyte College School of Law, in collaboration with the Occidental Leyte Bar Association (OLBA), Inc., and in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)–Leyte,Leyte, successfully conducted a seminar titled “Katarungang Pambarangay Law: A Refresher Course.”

This initiative aimed to fortify the local justice system by enhancing the legal proficiency of Lupon members across various barangays in the Municipality of Leyte, Leyte. The discussion focused on the nuances of the law, ensuring that proper procedural requirements are effectively implemented in the barangay level.

The seminar featured a team of legal experts who shared their insights; Atty. Michael Sevilla, Atty. Apple Lanugan, and Atty. Ruel Eduard Ligutan.

WLC - SLG CLEP Students also took the stage as resource speakers; Xyrene Joy Frias, Lord Tyrone Agaton and Erico Jusay.

Clinical Education Program (CLEP) students of the WLC School of Law headed by their Dean, Dean Evergisto S. Escalon, together with volunteer-lawyers of Escalon and Escalon Law Office held a Free Legal Aid activity last October 1, 2024 at the Hilongos Municipality Gymnasium, Hilongos, Leyte.

The lawyers in attendance were Dean Evergisto S. Escalon, Atty. Adrianne Rose M. Ogario, Atty. Kivee C. Delos Santos, Atty. Andre Alan S. Cu, Atty. Agnes Antonette A. Alonzo and Atty. Ayn M. Cubio.

With the help of Hon. Richard Benedict V. Ogario, Liga ng mga Barangay president of Hilongos town, the team was able to extend help to the marginalized sectors of the town by offering free Legal Consultation, Drafting and Notarization of simple documents such as affidavits, SPAs, and GPAs.

These services were further strengthened by the participation of representatives from the local civil registrar, who assisted in resolving queries involving registration of birth, death, and other essential civil documents.

The activity ensured that the underserved constituents of Hilongos town receive the legal assistance and documentation services they require, while law students gain invaluable practical experience that would be of help to them in their law classes — and later on as they engage in the practice of law.
