BOOKWORMS' HAVEN CLUB HOLDS ORIENTATION AND ELECTION OF NEW OFFICERS

Last June 9, 2026, the Bookworms' Haven Club successfully conducted its Club Orientation and Election of New Officers at Opol Community College. The event was organized and facilitated by the outgoing club officers, who took the lead in preparing and ensuring the success of the activity.

The orientation served as an opportunity to welcome new members and familiarize them with the club's vision, mission, goals, and objectives. Through the discussion, members gained a deeper understanding of the club's commitment to promoting literacy, fostering a love for reading, and developing leadership and community engagement among students.

Following the orientation, the club held its election of new officers. Members actively participated in the democratic process by casting their votes to select the individuals who will lead the organization for the upcoming academic year. The election highlighted the club's dedication to responsible leadership, transparency, and active member involvement.

The event also included the distribution of club slips to members, marking the official start of their participation in the organization's activities and programs.

Through this activity, the Bookworms' Haven Club continues to strengthen its organization by empowering new leaders, welcoming aspiring members, and reaffirming its commitment to serving the school and the community through literacy and educational initiatives.

BOOKWORMS IN ACTION

Last March 23–27, 2026, the Bookworms' Haven Club conducted a five-day seminar at Opol Community College. The seminar aimed to prepare tutors and Youth Development Workers (YDWs) for their upcoming community deployment. This initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Opol Community College, both of which share a commitment to promoting literacy and community development.

The event was attended by the club officers and members, including the outgoing Club President, Mr. Reymond D. Paran; outgoing Club Secretary, Mr. Fritz Michael Catian; and outgoing Event Coordinators, Ms. Jovielyn Aniega and Mr. Christian Kyle Arela. Other members who actively participated in the seminar were Ms. Maria Josephine Gabe, Ms. Angel Condeza, Ms. Eith Claire Abejo, and Ms. Jovelyn Madronero.

On May 4, 2026, the tutors and YDWs were officially deployed to various barangays in Opol, Misamis Oriental. Three tutors and one Youth Development Worker were assigned to Igpit Elementary School, while the remaining volunteers were deployed to Bayugbayugan Integrated School, Malanang Integrated School, and Bara Elementary School.

The deployment lasted for twenty days, during which the volunteers dedicated their time and efforts to helping emerging readers improve their reading and writing skills. In addition to conducting literacy activities, the volunteers also worked closely with parents by providing guidance and practical strategies to help them support their children's learning, particularly in developing reading proficiency at home.

Through this collaborative literacy initiative of the Department of Social Welfare and Development and Opol Community College, the Bookworms' Haven Club demonstrated its commitment to promoting literacy, community engagement, and educational development. The successful deployment not only strengthened the volunteers' teaching and leadership skills but also made a meaningful impact on the lives of young learners and their families.
