DID YOU KNOW? | A LEGACY OF FAITH AND EDUCATION

Did you know that St. Joseph College–Olongapo, Inc., formerly known as Saint Joseph’s School, was established on August 16, 1929?

In 1929, Fr. Moran founded Saint Joseph’s School, making it the first Catholic school in Olongapo, offering elementary and high school classes.

When the school officially opened its classes on August 16, 1929, the students—especially the young girls—welcomed the guests dressed as San Roque. They wore long brown habits and hats, with a bandage around the left leg, and carried a staff accompanied by a dog—traditional symbols associated with the saint.

This tradition of dressing as San Roque during the feast continued for many years, until the Second World War.

From its humble beginnings, St. Joseph’s School grew into an enduring institution of faith, education, and service, becoming an important part of the history of Olongapo and the Saint Joseph Parish community.

We give thanks for the generations of educators, students, parents, and faithful who have carried this legacy forward.

St. Joseph, patron of the Church and model of faithful service, pray for us!
