The RSU Office of Media and Public Affairs (OMPA) extends its sincere gratitude to DOST-MIMAROPA and DOST-Romblon for trusting and welcoming us as a media partner for the 2026 MIMAROPA Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW).
Beyond capturing photos and stories, RSTW gave the OMPA team an opportunity to listen, learn, and gain valuable insights into how science, technology, and innovation can create meaningful impact in island communities.
We are honored to be one of the media partners of this meaningful event and grateful for the opportunity to help tell stories that make science and innovation more visible, understandable, and felt.

๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ | World Photography Day
A photograph does more than capture a moment. It preserves a feeling, a place, a face, and a story that might otherwise pass unnoticed.
This World Photography Day, Kwentong Lente takes us on a quiet walk around campus. Through the familiar rhythm of campus life and along well-worn paths, we look at RSU as it is in its ordinary moments: people passing by, spaces waiting, and little details that become part of everyday campus life.
Because every corner has a story. And sometimes, all it takes is a lens to see it.
Kwentong Lente. Stories of RSU, one frame at a time.

Romblon State University's Office of Media and Public Affairs took part in the 2026 MIMAROPA Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) Press Conference held on August 17, 2026, at the RSU Hostel Function Hall, joining national, local, university, and student media organizations in engaging key Department of Science and Technology (DOST) officials on the regionโs science, technology, and innovation agenda.
Representing OMPA as invited media representatives were Mr. Andrei Rafael V. Fabellon, Public Relations and Communications Unit Head, and Ms. Glory Nhel M. Meรฑez, Office Staff, who raised questions highlighting the role of universities, researchers, and students in translating science and innovation into meaningful solutions for island communities.
The press conference featured Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr., DOST Secretary; Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang, DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations; Dr. Bernardo N. Sepeda, DOST-MIMAROPA Regional Director; Engr. Maria Teresa B. De Guzman, DOST Assistant Secretary for Countryside Development; Dr. Marcelina V. Servaรฑez, DOST-Romblon Provincial Director; and Prof. Dr. Merian P. Catajay-Mani, RSU University President.
Fabellon asked how DOST and higher education institutions can work together to develop a science, technology, and digital innovation agenda responsive to the realities and unique challenges of island communities, particularly as RSU advances its journey toward becoming the nation's Center for Archipelagic Intelligence.
DOST-MIMAROPA Regional Director Dr. Sepeda encouraged university researchers to scale up and nurture island-reality research, while maximizing available DOST grants and opportunities.
Engr. De Guzman, DOST Assistant Secretary for Countryside Development, further highlighted funding opportunities for R&D results utilization projects, emphasizing the shift from research outputs alone toward ensuring that research results are ultimately felt in communities. She encouraged RSU and other higher education institutions to submit proposals.
Meanwhile, Meรฑez raised a question on the HANDA MIMAROPA Resilience Innovation Challenge, particularly on how promising student innovations can be sustained beyond the competition and eventually developed for community application.
DOST Secretary Dr. Solidum shared that the HANDA PILIPINAS Campaign was conceived as both a state of being ready and a call to action to make the Philippines and its communities ready. He emphasized that promising innovations, projects, and proposals developed by young people through the campaign are being supported and refined toward technologies that can serve communities.
Secretary Solidum also highlighted DOST's Innovation Hubs across the country, where young people and potential innovators can develop and explore their ideas. He emphasized that DOST does not simply wait for innovations to come to the agency, but actively seeks out promising ideas and projects that can be supported and connected to communities that stand to benefit from them.
Through these exchanges, OMPA's participation reflected its role not only in documenting institutional and regional developments, but also in opening discussions that connect RSU's academic and research agenda with broader opportunities for innovation, community impact, and archipelagic development.
