📩 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄!!

The 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 (ESCEO) conducted a 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 in preparation for the municipality-wide implementation of the 𝗦.𝗔.𝗙.𝗘. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺, with the faculty and staff from CAS, CCMADI, Guidance Office, and REDI.

The meeting focused on the program’s data-gathering and field implementation strategies, particularly the conduct of FGDs and KIIs across the identified target communities.

The results of the municipality-wide needs assessment will help identify community priorities and guide the implementation of the program’s three projects toward responsive and community-centered extension initiatives.

𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭 𝗜 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀: 𝗥𝗦𝗨 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗜𝘁𝘀 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗨𝗣𝗟𝗕

What happens when research projects pause for a moment to ask, “How are we doing so far?”

That was the focus of Romblon State University’s Mid-Year Review of Externally Funded Projects, held on September 8, 2026, at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).

Bringing together project leaders and research teams, the activity provided a space to look beyond the numbers and reports and take a closer look at what is happening on the ground: What has been accomplished? How have the funds been utilized? What challenges have emerged? And what needs to be done next?

A total of 11 externally funded research projects presented their mid-year accomplishments, sharing their progress, fund utilization, implementation updates, and the issues and concerns encountered along the way. Projects such as COCOHYBRID, Native Pig, Solar Powerhouse, and DNA Barcoding shared their updates and the work being done toward their respective research objectives.

But the review was more than a series of presentations. It was an opportunity to pause, assess, ask questions, exchange insights, and find ways forward. Accomplishments were discussed, concerns were raised, and possible solutions were explored to help keep each project on track.

The activity also reinforced the importance of accountability, responsible fund utilization, and effective research management in implementing externally funded projects.

For RSU, the mid-year review is an important checkpoint as the University continues to support its researchers and ensure that these projects move forward as planned.

RSU champions Innovation, Community Engagement

Romblon State University (RSU) championed innovation and community engagement in its pursuit of excellence through enhanced student orientation activities and strengthened community service initiatives.

The three-day orientation program, “RSU Launchpad 2026,” welcomed both new and returning students through comprehensive walkthroughs of academic policies, essential student services, and campus resources. The initiative underscored RSU’s continuing commitment to integrating innovation into its academic and administrative practices, a commitment recently recognized on the global stage. RSU ranked 37th globally and second nationwide in the 2026 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI).

Beyond the campus, RSU continued its commitment to uplifting geographically isolated communities. The university extended community engagement and relief initiatives to the Indigenous Peoples of Sitio Layag, Barangay Tacobo. RSU personnel navigated three to four hours of rugged mountain terrain to deliver rechargeable lights, conduct mental health awareness sessions, and provide kitchen supplies and educational tools to the community.

Through its Sustainable Social Services (UniCESS) program, RSU and its partner agencies brought essential services to 120 households in Barangay Pinamihagan, San Jose, Romblon, on September 1, 2026. The initiative provided medical assistance, livelihood training, family empowerment activities, oral hygiene services, rice, and school kits, reaffirming RSU’s commitment to serving geographically isolated and disadvantaged communities.

These initiatives demonstrate RSU’s continuing pursuit of excellence through innovation, service, and meaningful community engagement.

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP)-led program brings together higher education leaders and administrators from across the country to strengthen leadership, governance, and institutional capacity in Philippine higher education.

As Vice President for REDI, Dr. Fetalvero has played an important role in advancing RSU’s research, extension, development, and innovation initiatives, helping strengthen the University’s contributions to its communities and its pursuit of institutional excellence.
