In line with its mandate to safeguard the nation’s cultural heritage, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) officially releases the revised Cultural Mapping Program Guidelines pursuant to Republic Act No. 10066, or the National Cultural Heritage Act of 2009, as amended by Republic Act No. 11961.

The Cultural Mapping Program serves as a vital tool for the systematic identification, documentation, and preservation of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. It provides an essential foundation for informed planning, policy formulation, and the integration of culture into local governance and sustainable development initiatives.

Isinagawa noong 3 Hunyo 2026 ang pangangalap ng datos para sa Glosaryong Panghanapbuhay sa Pagpapalayok at Pagpaparol sa Brgy. Gatbuca, Calumpit, Bulacan at ang gawaing ito ay bahagi ng proyektong Diksiyonaryo bílang pagpapalawak ng bokabularyong panteknolohiya at panghanapbuhay.

Kabilang sa mga ininterbiyu sina Carmelita F. Baluyot, hulíng magpapalayok sa lugar; Milagros Ramos-Lugto, magpapalayok at may-ari ng Milabel Pottery; at Juanito Mallari Sr., magpapasô, mulâ sa Brgy. Gatbuca, Calumpit, Bulacan; pati si G. Rolando S. Quiambao na tinaguriang Parol King ng San Fernando, Pampanga.

Layunin ng gawain na magtipon ng mga terminong panghanapbuhay na nakatuon sa pagpapalayok at pagpaparol sa mga pangunahing lugar na isinasagawa ito, kabilang ang Bulacan at Pampanga. Ang mga terminong malilikom at maidokumento ay gagamiting panimulang glosaryo para sa higit pang pagpapalawak ng pananaliksik sa wika at kultura.

Pinangunahan ng KWF ang gawain, sa ilalim ng Sangay ng Leksikograpiya at Korpus ng Pilipinas kasama sina Jennifer Bactol, Mae Ann Cansino, Earvin Christian Pelagio, at Julius Pontillas. Katuwang sa gawaing ito sina Dr. Mary S. Bulaong, Direktor ng Sentro ng Wika at Kultura, at G. Manolito G. Mata ng Bulacan State University, Kgg. Levi Peralta-Gallardo ng Brgy. Gatbuca, Prop. Romblon State University proudly launches the Center for Sustainable Environment and Natural Resource Governance (CSENRG), an initiative that reinforces the University's commitment to environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and science-based natural resource governance.

As an island-based state university aspiring to become the Archipelagic University of the Philippines, RSU is uniquely positioned to advance the country's blue and green economy agenda. CSENRG will serve as a knowledge and innovation hub for ridge-to-reef environmental governance, linking forests, watersheds, freshwater systems, coastal areas, and marine ecosystems through research, innovation, and policy engagement.

Aligned with global sustainability goals, CSENRG will directly contribute to the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 6, 7, 11, 13, 14, and 15.

Through the Center, RSU continues to lead the way in promoting sustainable development, environmental stewardship, and resilient communities from ridge to reef.

Philippine Translators Series 2025 still open for submissions, with an expanded scope for translation work

To all translators from all over the Philippines, the Philippine Translators Series (PTS) 2025 remains open for submissions for book projects in translation. This is a project by the Likhaan: UP Institute of Creative Writing (UP ICW), in partnership with the University of the Philippines Press.

The call is now expanded to any of the following book-length translation works:
Regional texts translated into Filipino or English (priority)
Filipino texts by Filipino authors translated into English
English texts by Filipino authors translated into Filipino

The new deadline is on July 15, 2026.

The Philippine Translators Series was launched in 2021 to aid in making the country’s rich linguistic and cultural repository accessible to more readers. The PTS works in tandem with another one of our projects, the Philippine Writers Series (PWS), to assist writers in the production of Philippine literature. Through the PTS, Likhaan aims to support these writers in successfully translating works to other languages.

The guidelines for submission are as follows:
The source material can be in any genre. Books written in the regional languages of the Philippines (e.g., Chavacano, Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Kinaray-a, etc.) translated into Filipino or English will be prioritized. Works translated into regional languages are not considered at the moment.
Works in Filipino translated into English and works in English by Filipino authors translated into Filipino are now eligible for submission.
Translated manuscripts must be in Filipino or English.
The translated manuscript must not have been published or submitted to another publisher for consideration.
Translated manuscripts must also include two ten-page introductions: one to introduce the original work, and the other to discuss the translation process.
The author of the source material can be the translator of the work as well.
In the case of a translator using the work of a different author, permission must be secured from the author of the source material. This will be submitted as an authorization letter affixed with the signatures of the author/estate owner and/ or previous publisher and the translator.
Please note that the original work will be published alongside the translated work. As such, submissions for the PTS will need to include a letter of approval by the original work's author and publisher, certifying that their work can be published with the translation.
Upon screening, a shortlist of submissions will be endorsed by the UP Institute of Creative Writing to undergo the requisite double-blind review process of the University of the Philippines Press.
Accepted contributors will receive an honorarium of P10,000 gross of tax for the author. To support translation projects, the ICW also provides a compensation of P500 per page, up to a maximum of 250 pages, for the translator. This is also subject to withholding tax.

A recent photograph of the translator
Photo and biographical note of the author of the source material.

Nagsimula ito noong 2016 at ilan na sa mga naparangalan sa pinakamataas na antas bilang KWF Dangal ng Selyo ng Kahusayan sa Serbisyo Publiko ay ang Korporasyong Pangkoreo ng Pilipinas, Pamahalaan ng Lungsod Taguig, Mandaluyong, at Kagawaran ng Edukasyon-Rehiyong Bicol.

Nabigyan na rin ng pagkilala ang mga lokal na yunit ng pamahalaan tulad ng Sta. Rosa, Laguna; Pasay; Pasig; Sto.Tomas, Batangas; Marilao, Bulacan; Paranaque; Pateros; Valenzuela; Orion, Bataan; Lungsod Maynila; Pillila, Rizal; Brgy. Lower Bicutan at Ususan sa Taguig; Brgy. Hagdan Bato Itaas sa Mandaluyong; at Brgy. San Isidro sa Iriga, Camarines Sur.
