BREAKING: The 11-member minority bloc has elected Senator Sherwin Gatchalian as the Senate President Pro Tempore during the upper chamber’s session, replacing Senator Loren Legarda in the second-highest post.
After the Senate has failed to reach the 13-member quorum in today's plenary session for the resignation of Senate President Alan Cayetano, a rule adjustment was made in consideration of Senators Ronald Dela Rosa and Jinggoy Estrada's forceful absences, prompting the minority bloc, led by Senator Vicente Sotto III, to declare all elected positions as vacant.
Although Cayetano remains the Senate President, all vacant senate officer and committee chairperson positions are now occupied by the minority bloc.
Only Senator Francis Escudero attended from the majority bloc; other majority bloc members boycotted the session following Estrada's arrest.
