Following the Roundtable Discussion with Prof. Dato' Dr. Aileen Tan Shau Hwai, FASc., the International Relations Officers Network (IRON) of CHED Region XI stayed on at San Pedro College for a separate working session โ€” the final coordination meeting for VOICEs of the ASEAN.

International Relations Officers from the region's higher education institutions gathered to finalize the preparations for the culmination activity on September 18, 2026, threshing out program flow, host and venue arrangements, participating delegations, committee assignments, and timelines.

Voices of the ASEAN reflects the shared commitment of Region XI's internationalization offices to give students a platform to speak, listen, and learn across borders โ€” building regional understanding one conversation at a time.

San Pedro College is honored to have hosted this final round of preparations and joins IRON XI in looking forward to the culmination this September.

The UiTM Malaysia Visit 2026 closed with three experiences that captured the fuller life of San Pedro College and its city.

The delegation first toured the SPC Basic Education Department, where they were welcomed by Sr. Josefa E. Dumapias, OP, the Dean of School of Allied Heath Sciences, Dr. Fatima May R. Tesoro with the Associate Dean, Sir Daniel Joshua C. Pendon, and given a glimpse of the College's integrated approach to learning from the early years onward โ€” a courtesy visit marked by the enthusiasm of our young learners.

The visitors then proceeded to the SPC Animal Hub, where Animal Hub staff and Dr. Tesoro led an orientation, hands-on observation, and an open question-and-answer session. The Hub, one of the College's distinctive facilities, drew keen interest from the delegates for its role in instruction, research, and responsible animal care.

The day concluded with a brief cultural immersion at the Poblacion Pasalubong center, where our guests explored local crafts, delicacies, and pasalubong, carrying home a piece of Davao alongside their memories of San Pedro College.

To Universiti Teknologi MARA: thank you for a day of learning, laughter, and genuine exchange. Our doors remain open.

Hanggang sa muli!

The afternoon of the UiTM Malaysia Visit 2026 was devoted to a guided campus tour, where delegates from Universiti Teknologi MARA were introduced to the facilities that support health sciences education at San Pedro College.

Accompanied by the Director of the Science Laboratories Dr. Chalee S. Reyes, the InterLink GMP Coordinator, Ms. Romelle P. Hilamon, LPT, with student tour guides, the delegation visited the College's laboratories and learning spaces, including Pharmacy Laboratories and the SPC Diagnostic, Research, and Training Center, with faculty-in-charge walking the guests through equipment, protocols, and how each facility figures into student training and clinical practice.

The tour sparked natural conversation about curriculum design, laboratory standards, and clinical exposure at both institutions โ€” the kind of comparison that quietly seeds future collaboration in research and student mobility.

San Pedro College takes pride in facilities built for competence and care, and in the students and faculty who brought them to life for our visitors.

Hospitality is at the heart of every Pedrian welcome. During the UiTM Malaysia Visit 2026, delegates from Universiti Teknologi MARA joined members of the SPC International Students Organization (ISO) for a cultural exchange and a salo-salo โ€” a shared meal that has long been the Filipino way of turning guests into friends.

The gathering became an easy, generous exchange of stories, traditions, and student life across Malaysia and the Philippines, with the ISO extending the same warmth that has welcomed international students to San Pedro College over the years.

The delegation likewise paid a courtesy call to the SPC Administrators, led by the President herself, Sr. Aida T. Frencillo, OP, who received the visitors and affirmed the College's commitment to internationalization, cross-cultural understanding, and sustained partnership with institutions abroad.

To our UiTM guests: maraming salamat po, and terima kasih. May this be the first of many meetings between our communities.

As part of the UiTM Malaysia Visit 2026, San Pedro College hosted a Global Lecture Session on "Malaysia's Innovations in Advanced Drug Delivery: Nanocarriers, Extracellular Vesicles, and Hydrogel-Based Therapeutics," delivered by Prof. Khuriah Binti Abdul Hamid of Universiti Teknologi MARA.

Held at the SPC AVR 1 on August 19, 2026, the one-hour lecture introduced participants to emerging platforms in pharmaceutical science โ€” from nanocarrier systems and extracellular vesicles to hydrogel-based therapeutics โ€” and situated these advances within the broader landscape of Malaysian research and innovation.

The session drew students and faculty from the SPC School of Allied Health Sciences โ€” Pharmacy Department, who engaged the resource speaker in an open exchange on research directions and cross-border collaboration.

Beyond the science, the lecture affirmed a shared conviction: that knowledge grows when it crosses borders. San Pedro College extends its gratitude to Prof. Khuriah and to UiTM for a session that widened the horizons of our academic community.

Beyond the lecture halls and conference sessions, the visit of Prof. Dato' Dr. Aileen Tan Shau Hwai, FASc. of Universiti Sains Malaysia and APUCEN opened space for community extension planning and collaborative meetings with the San Pedro College Internationalization and Linkages (InterLink) Office and the Community Engagement and Extension Services (CEES) Office.

Discussions focused on possible joint community extension projects, collaborative research, faculty and student mobility, and APUCEN-anchored programs, laying the groundwork for a sustained partnership between San Pedro College and Universiti Sains Malaysia.

The engagement concluded with a short cultural immersion, where our guest experienced Davao cuisine and magnificent city views โ€” a fitting close that reflected the warmth of Dabawenyo hospitality and the spirit of Pedroan welcome.

San Pedro College remains committed to building partnerships that go beyond agreements on paper โ€” partnerships rooted in genuine encounter, shared purpose, and compassionate service.

San Pedro College, through the Internationalization and Linkages (InterLink) Office, had the distinct honor of welcoming Prof. Dato' Dr. Aileen Tan Shau Hwai, FASc., Executive Director of the Asia-Pacific University-Community Engagement Network (APUCEN) and distinguished marine scientist of Universiti Sains Malaysia, for two academic engagements with the SPC community on August 12โ€“13, 2026.

Dr. Tan served as International Plenary Speaker of the 9th Madayaw International Multidisciplinary Research Conference, held at the Philomene Labrecque Hall. Anchored on the theme "SDGs in the Era of the Fifth Industrial Revolution: Navigating the Decade of Action towards Human-Centered and Sustainable Futures," Madayaw 9.0 gathered delegates from different institutions, including higher education institutions, government agencies, medical centers, and foundations from across the country and abroad. Dr. Tan challenged researchers to translate scholarly work into meaningful and sustainable community impact.

The following morning, Dr. Tan stepped from the plenary hall into the classroom for a Global Lecture Session under the InterLink Office's Global Mobility Program โ€“ Global Lecture Series, hosted in collaboration with the School of Business Management, Education, Arts and Sciences (SBMEAS) โ€“ Biology Department. Speaking on Marine Pollution, she brought Bachelor of Science in Biology students and faculty members into a rich discussion on the growing threats to our seas and coastal ecosystems, the science behind them, and the role of the biological sciences in protecting marine life and the communities that depend on it.

Together, the two sessions captured what internationalization means at San Pedro College: world-class expertise shared not only from the stage, but across the table and inside the classroom โ€” widening student perspectives and nurturing globally competent, socially responsive Pedroans.

San Pedro College extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Tan, APUCEN, and Universiti Sains Malaysia for a generous and inspiring visit.
