Their enduring legacy reminds us that the liberties we enjoy today were won through generations of resilience, patriotism, and collective action.
The University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) joins the Filipino people in celebrating this historic occasion and honoring the values of freedom, unity, and nationhood that continue to shape our collective future.
As a public institution of higher learning, USeP remains committed to nurturing informed citizens, advancing knowledge, and empowering communities through accessible and transformative education. Through teaching, research, innovation, and public service, the University contributes to the ongoing work of nation-building and the pursuit of a more just, inclusive, and progressive society.
In observance of Philippine Independence Day, work and classes across all USeP campuses are suspended.
DID YOU KNOW? The Philippines laid the groundwork to become the first constitutional republic in Asia when its independence was proclaimed on June 12, 1898, in Kawit, Cavite. During this historic declaration, the Philippine flag was officially unfurled for the first time, and the national anthemโthen known as the Marcha Filipina Magdaloโwas played. This pivotal event culminated in the formal inauguration of the First Philippine Republic on January 23, 1899.

[๐ก๐๐ง๐๐ข๐ก๐๐ ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐๐ ๐ ๐ข๐ก๐ง๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฒ] This May, the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) joins the nationwide observance of National Heritage Month, led by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, embracing this yearโs theme, โRoots and Horizons. Shared Heritage. Our Collective Future.โ
From time-honored traditions and ancestral knowledge to the evolving expressions of todayโs generation, heritage continues to shape our identity as a people. It lives in our languages, stories, crafts, and cultural spaces, connecting us across generations while guiding us toward the future.
This yearโs celebration invites every member of the community to take part in safeguarding and promoting our shared heritage. Whether by visiting historical sites, supporting local artists, learning traditional practices, or simply listening to the stories of those who came before us, each act helps keep our culture alive and meaningful.
As an academic institution committed to nation-building, USeP continues to support initiatives that document, preserve, and promote cultural heritage through instruction, research, and community engagement. These efforts contribute to strengthening cultural awareness and shaping a generation that values both its roots and its role in building the future.
May this National Heritage Month deepen our appreciation of the stories that shape us, inspire us to honor and safeguard our shared traditions, and encourage us to actively take part in preserving and enriching our cultural legacy, for the communities we serve and the generations to come.
