BIS young journos bag multiple awards in Pagwaragwag Kids 2026
BANGA, AKLAN— Young journalists from Bulwang Integrated School (BIS) brought home multiple awards in various writing and visual journalism categories during Pagwaragwag Kids 2026, held at the Aklan State University Review Center on September 9.
With the theme, “Sowing Seeds of Truth: Growing Healthy Minds Through Responsible Journalism,” the journalism event gathered participants from 25 elementary schools across Aklan as part of an initiative to develop responsible and ethical young journalists.
During the opening program, Dr. Donna R. Lariosa, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, underscored the vital role of young journalists in an increasingly digital and artificial intelligence-driven world.
“Pagwaragwag Kids is a noble endeavor to sow the seeds of truth-telling among our children,” Lariosa said.
Meanwhile, John Kient Francisco, who delivered an inspirational message on behalf of 1st District Congressman Jesus “Jess” Marquez, highlighted the power of journalism in promoting truth and combating misinformation.
“A small pencil in the hands of a child is more powerful than a loudspeaker spreading lies,”Francisco emphasized.
The event featured lectures on News and Feature Writing, Sports Writing, Photojournalism, Column and Editorial Writing, Copyreading and Headline Writing, and Editorial Cartooning, facilitated by Dr. Philip Jayson Falcis, Ms. Jelyssa Angela I. Ribo, Mr. Chandelmer S. Ginoy, Dr. Jonell S. Gregorio, and Ms. Janine Tolores.
BIS emerged as one of the schools with notable performances, with its young journalists earning several runner-up finishes and promising distinctions across different categories.
